TWRA to get help from Quail Forever Staff addition with State Game Bird’s Restoration Efforts

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – As part of the recently-implemented “Tennessee Northern Bobwhite Quail Restoration Plan” a third person has been added as a Quail Forever farm bill wildlife biologist in the state.

David Peters joins the Quail Forever staff. He will work closely with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency staff on the plan to help bring back the bobwhite quail population which has seen its numbers decline over the past several decades. His primary area of responsibility will be in TWRA Region III, which includes one of the four quail focus Wildlife Management Areas, the Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial WMA. «Read the rest of this article»

TWRA selects Four Wildlife Management Areas as Northern Bobwhite Quail Anchor locations

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency completed “The Tennessee Northern Bobwhite Quail Restoration Plan” last year and it is now being put into action.

The northern bobwhite quail is Tennessee’s state game bird and historically was a prominent game bird across the southeastern United States. Unfortunately, due to the large scale loss of farmland, changes in agriculture, and increases in forest land, quail habitat has been reduced or eliminated. Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam requests Disaster Declaration for March Storm

 

Carroll, Cheatham, Dickson, Fayette, Haywood, Houston, Madison, Shelby and Tipton counties

State of TennesseeNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam today requested a presidential disaster declaration for nine counties as a result of extreme winter weather on March 2nd-4th, 2014.

The federal assistance programs would provide access to a 75 percent reimbursement of the eligible costs to Carroll, Cheatham, Dickson, Fayette, Haywood, Houston, Madison, Shelby, and Tipton counties. This request also includes the hazard mitigation program on a statewide basis.

TWRA releases Deer Harvest Totals for 2013-14 Seasons

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – More than 168,000 deer were harvested in Tennessee during the recently completed 2013-14 seasons as data continues to be gathered by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

TWRA reports Young Sportsman Deer Hunt numbers show slight increase

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Harvests from Tennessee’s first Young Sportsman Deer Hunt of the 2013-14 season were very similar to the fall of 2012, showing a slight increase. The youth hunt was held across the state on October 26th-27th.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency states Youth Hunt to Conclude 2012-2013 Deer Season

 

3,562 Deer Harvested in Montgomery County

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The second of the season’s youth hunts, scheduled for January 12th-13th, will conclude the 2012-13 deer hunting season in Tennessee.

Youth, ages 6-16 years of age may participate. The young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age who must remain in a position to take control of the hunting device.

The accompanying adult must comply with fluorescent orange regulations, as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youths may be accompanied nu a single qualifying adult. «Read the rest of this article»

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports funding available to improve Livestock Forage for Wildlife Habitat

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has been informed that the Tennessee’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has recently received $778,044 in additional funding to help crop and livestock producers through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

Producers in areas designated as either D3 Drought, Extreme or D4 Drought  exceptional on the recent July 2012 U.S. Drought Monitor maps for Tennessee are eligible to apply for selected conservation practices. These areas include Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Haywood, Henry, Houston, Humphreys, Lake, Lauderdale, Montgomery, Obion, Shelby, Stewart, Tipton, and Weakley counties. «Read the rest of this article»

Tennessee Wildlife Resoureces Agency reports 2012 Gun Season for Deer Underway

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Tennessee sportsmen harvested more than 17,000 deer statewide on the opening weekend of gun season for deer as harvest numbers continue to be reported.

The 17,093 reported as of noon (CST) on Monday surpasses the 2011 total of 14,463 over the same time frame in 2011.

Since the initial segment of archery season for deer began on September 22nd, 84,825 deer have been harvested, an increase of 3,522 over the same period as last year. «Read the rest of this article»
