Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Asks for Federal Disaster Declaration to Assist 12 Counties Recovering from Memorial Weekend Storms

 

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has requested that President Donald Trump declare a major disaster in Tennessee from the severe storms and straight-line winds of May 27th, and May 28th, 2017, in order to make federal assistance available for recovery efforts in the State’s impacted city and county jurisdictions.

“Community leaders, emergency managers, first responders, local officials and non-profits across Tennessee have worked tirelessly to help their neighbors recover from the impacts of the severe storms,“ Haslam said.

TWRA says Antlerless Deer Hunting available on Private Lands Only in Unit L Counties, January 9th-13th

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Antlerless deer hunting will be allowed on all privately owned lands in Unit L counties January 9th-13th. This is the second year for the five days of hunting following the completion of the deer season on January 8th.

Privately owned lands include leased land and lands owned by individuals. It is the responsibility of hunters to obtain verbal or written permission to hunt on privately owned lands.

National Weather ServiceNashville, TN – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm watch for Clarksville-Montgomery County that is in effect this afternoon until 8:00pm tonight, Sunday, May 1st.

Thunderstorms are developing from Western Tennessee to Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana and these storms should increase some in coverage and intensity through the afternoon while spreading eastward.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency announces Conservation Reserve Program Sign-up

 

Conservation Reserve Program Sign-up to Be Held December 1st-February 26th

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has been informed that U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up will be held December 1st, 2015, through February 26th, 2016.

Through the program’s various targeted continuous CRP practices, the general and continuous program offerings will provide a much-needed habitat boost to recovering bobwhite quail along with other upland and wetland wildlife species. TWRA reports close to 165,000 Deer Harvested during 2014-2015 Seasons

 

3,534 Deer Harvested in Montgomery County

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Close to 165,000 deer were harvested in Tennessee during the recently completed 2014-15 seasons according to data gathered by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

TWRA announces 2014-15 Deer Hunting Season Coming to a Close

 

3,228 Deer Harvested in Montgomery County

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Deer hunting season is coming to a close in Tennessee. The gun season for deer concludes on January 4th while the second Young Sportsman Hunt for 2014-15 is January 10th-11th.

TWRA to get help from Quail Forever Staff addition with State Game Bird’s Restoration Efforts

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – As part of the recently-implemented “Tennessee Northern Bobwhite Quail Restoration Plan” a third person has been added as a Quail Forever farm bill wildlife biologist in the state.

David Peters joins the Quail Forever staff. He will work closely with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency staff on the plan to help bring back the bobwhite quail population which has seen its numbers decline over the past several decades. TWRA selects Four Wildlife Management Areas as Northern Bobwhite Quail Anchor locations

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency completed “The Tennessee Northern Bobwhite Quail Restoration Plan” last year and it is now being put into action.

The northern bobwhite quail is Tennessee’s state game bird and historically was a prominent game bird across the southeastern United States. Unfortunately, due to the large scale loss of farmland, changes in agriculture, and increases in forest land, quail habitat has been reduced or eliminated.
