Clarksville Montgomery County Library has Civil War Photo Contest Exhibit on Display

Clarksville, TN – A winning photograph of cannon at Fort Donelson by Clarksville Middle-school student Miles Wilbur is among photographs currently on display at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library as it hosts the photo exhibit “Living Legacies: Capturing the Scenic Beauty in Tennessee’s Civil War Heritage.”

The exhibit is located in the library’s first-floor alcove (behind the fiction section). At the end of May the exhibit will close and move to the Obion County Public Library.

Fort Donelson National Battlefield gets new Superintendent, Brian McCutchen

Atlanta, GA – Brian Keith McCutchen took over responsibility as the new superintendent of Fort Donelson National Battlefield on October 21st. He most recently served as superintendent of the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park, in Vincennes, IN.

“We are very pleased that Brian is joining the Southeast Region family,” said David Vela, Southeast Regional Director. “He has a diverse record of professional experience in many of our historic parks. He is an avid student of American military history.  That and his prior experiences as superintendent in two other parks will serve him and the Fort Donelson community very well.”

United States Colored Troops Living History Association Hosts Annual Conference in Clarksville October 19th-21st

Clarksville, TN – The United States Colored Troops Living History Association’s annual national meeting will be October 19th-21st in Clarksville, TN at Riverview Inn, 50 College Street.

The United States Colored Troops Living History Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and accurately interpret the history of the United States Colored Troops of the American Civil War and those that supported their efforts to abolish slavery and preserve the Union and to educate the public and promote research of the history and legacy of those who served in the Civil War. «Read the rest of this article»

This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Clarksville’s Civil War Story Video Wins Award from Tennessee Association of Museums

Clarksville, TN – “Crossroads of Change, Clarksville, Tennessee 1861-1865,” a locally-produced video providing a perspective of the impact of the Civil War upon Clarksville and its inhabitants during the years 1861 to 1865, was honored with a 2012 Certificate of Commendation from the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) at its annual convention held recently in Memphis Tennessee.

Actor Keith McCoy portrays a member of the US Colored Troops in this scene from “Crossroads of Change, Clarksville, Tennessee 1861-1865.” The video was researched, written and filmed in Montgomery County and is based on local journals and diaries of the Civil War era.

Fort Defiance Interpretive Center to host Book Signing Event

Clarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host its first-ever book signing Saturday, February 18th from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Carolyn Stier Ferrell will be available to sign copies of her most recent book, “Occupied: The Story of Clarksville, Tennessee During the Civil War.”

Clarksville-Montgomery County to Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Town’s Surrender to Union Naval Forces

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville Montgomery County Civil War Sesquicentennial or CW150 Commission is preparing for the 150th anniversary of the “Surrender of Clarksville.”

To commemorate this historic event, the CW150 Commission will host a ceremony marking the date on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at 2:00pm at Fort Defiance Civil War Park.

Fort Donelson Civil War Roundtable to meet on January 19th in Dover, TN

Dover, TN – On Thursday January 19th at 7:00pm the Fort Donelson Civil War Roundtable will be hosting Historian Karel Lea Biggs as she speaks about Life in Occupied Tennessee. The Fort Donelson Civil War Round Table meets in the Stewart County Visitor’s Center in Dover, Tn.

Mrs. Biggs presentation will tell the story of life in middle Tennessee, especially Nashville, during the Union Occupation. Her presentation takes a step back from the military aspect of the war and looks at the Civilian aspect of the war. This is especially significant as the Dover/Clarksville areas would be some of the longest occupied areas of the war.
