UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – As one of the top 16 overall seeds in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship field, the University of Tennessee Lady Vols earned the right to host first and second round games. This marks UT’s initial time hosting women’s tourney games since 2015.

No. 12/13 Tennessee (24-7), which earned the No. 3 seed in the Lexington Regional, will play host to No. 14 seed Liberty (24-9) on Friday, March 16th, at 1:30pm CT in Thompson-Boling Arena.

In Friday’s opening game in Knoxville, No. 13/12 Oregon State (23-7), seeded sixth, will meet No. 11 seed Western Kentucky (24-8) in the other first round contest at noon.

APSU Basketball to face ULM in opening-round of CIT

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball will host ULM in its opening game of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, 7:00pm, Thursday, March 15th, 2018 in the Dunn Center.

That was announced Sunday night after the finalization of the CIT field, which features 20 teams and begins 11:00am (CT), Monday, with four games on CBS Sports Network throughout the day.

Tennessee Vols hold off Kentucky for 76-65 win at Thompson-Bowling Arena

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TNAdmiral Schofield scored 20 points and recorded nine rebounds to lead the 23rd-ranked Tennessee Volunteers to a 76-65 victory over No. 17 Kentucky on Saturday night at a sold out Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
The Vols (10-4, 1-2 SEC) shot 54 percent from the field in the second half while using a strong defensive effort to outscore the Wildcats (12-3, 2-1 SEC) in the final period, 47-28, and earn their first conference victory of the season. Grant Williams stepped up offensively down the stretch, scoring 16 of his 18 points in the second half on 7-for-9 shooting.

Tennessee (8-2) enters the matchup with a pair of victories over teams from the ACC (NC State, 67-58, and Georgia Tech, 77-70) already this season. UT fell to No. 7 North Carolina in a hard-fought battle in Thompson-Boling Arena last Sunday, marking the Vols’ first home loss of the year. On Wednesday, Tennessee bounced back to hold off a Furman team riding a five-game winning streak, 66-61.

#21/20 Tennessee beats Furman 66-61 Wednesday night

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Sophomore guard Jordan Bowden tied his career high with 21 points to lead No. 20/21 Tennessee to a hard-fought, 66-61 win over Furman on Wednesday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The final 12 minutes of the game featured eight lead changes and five ties. Tennessee (8-2) enjoyed a 47-33 rebounding advantage over the Paladins (9-4) in the win.

The Vols’ stars stepped up in the second half when they needed them. Bowden, who shot 6-for-14 for the night and collected six rebounds and three assists, scored nine points in the second half. Sophomore forward Grant Williams scored 12 of his 14 points after halftime and finished with eight rebounds. Junior forward Admiral Schofield posted the second double-double of his career with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – After a hard-fought battle, the 20th-ranked Tennessee men’s basketball team came up short against No. 7 North Carolina, 78-73, before a sold-out crowd of 21,678 at Thompson-Boling Arena Sunday.
 
The Volunteers led for 37:10 of the contest, but a late 11-3 scoring run pushed the defending national champion Tar Heels to the win.
 
Grant Williams led five Vols in double-figure scoring with 15 points. James Daniel finished with 15, Jordan Bowden had 12 and Admiral Schofield and Jordan Bone chipped in 10 points each.

Tennessee Vols get 77-70 win at Georgia Tech

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsAtlanta, GA – Despite a sluggish offensive showing, the Tennessee men’s basketball team rallied in the final minutes to hold off Georgia Tech, 77-70, Sunday at McCamish Pavilion.

Lamonte Turner led the way for the Volunteers (6-1), tying a career-high with 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. He was also crucial in the closing minutes of the game, when Tennessee made 17-of-19 from the charity stripe in the final three minutes of action, burying all seven of his attempts during that stretch.

Grant Williams finished with 11 points and six boards after being limited due to foul trouble. Admiral Schofield and Jordan Bowden both added 10 points each to round out UT’s double-digit scorers.
