Austin Peay State University announces APSU Bass Tournament set for May 13th

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University announces that the 24th annual APSU Governors Bass Tournament will be held Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing (Tennessee) State Park. Last season’s tourney drew nearly 200 boats.

More than $12,000 dollars in prize money will be awarded. Previously, the Top 25 places earned cash prizes but now only the Top 10 places will gain monetary awards, meaning greater cash payouts, respectively, for those positions.

APSU names Mike Minyard as Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs

“I am grateful for the opportunity being provided by Ryan Ivey and the search committee to join the Austin Peay family,” Minyard said. “I am humbled to serve the institution and its student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni and student body. This campus and the people on it have an energy and enthusiasm that is unmatched. Together, I believe we can build a championship culture with the support of a growing fan base that will make us the premier athletic department in the Ohio Valley Conference and beyond.”

Austin Peay State University Governors Club Red Coat Society to induct Two February 18th

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The Governors Club Red Coat Society was created as a “Hall of Fame” for great Austin Peay State University supporters.

Sherwin Clift will be the first APSU Athletics Hall of Famer to join the elite society, along with the late Dr. Don Luck – who served as an APSU faculty member and longtime Governors Club member –  February 18th, during the Governors basketball doubleheader.

It’s only fitting for Clift to be the first dual member, because he’s that kind of trailblazer.

Longtime APSU Athletics supporter Lawrence Baggett to receive 2017 OVC Thurston Banks Award

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – A longtime supporter of Austin Peay State University athletics, Dr. Lawrence Baggett has been named a recipient of the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Thurston Banks Award for Distinguished Academic Service.

The award, selected by the OVC Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs), was established in 2013 to recognize individuals (e.g. academic advisor, professor, tutor, etc.), with at least five years of service at one or more OVC member institutions, for their outstanding contributions to OVC student-athletes’ academic success, learning and development as well for his or her overall commitment to the institution’s athletics program.

The Governors Club Overtime Social is an event designed for Governors Club members and Austin Peay fans alike to meet and greet with Governors coaches while enjoying light appetizers and a cash bar. Athletics Director Ryan Ivey, along with coaches in attendance, will make remarks beginning at 6:00pm.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam appoints Eight to serve on Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees

 

APSU to Have Increased Autonomy with Local Governing Board

Tennessee Higher Education CommissionClarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has appointed eight individuals to the newly created institutional governing board at Austin Peay State University.

The purpose of the appointments is to give the University increased autonomy to support student success as the state continues its Drive to 55 Initiative. Austin Peay State University’s governing board is one of six to be appointed by the governor, a result of the governor’s FOCUS Act passed by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year.

2016-17 APSU Basketball Season Ticket Structure Announced

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics has announced its ticketing structure for the 2016-17 season for men and women’s basketball.

Season ticket prices for the upcoming 25-date, 31-game season will vary depending upon the Governors Club membership level requested; the higher level of Governors Club membership, the greater the discount that will be applied for season tickets.

Included in the season ticket plan are 15 home dates for the defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champion APSU men’s basketball team.

Bill Herndon, APSU’s longtime ‘Voice of the Govs’, awarded OVC Lifetime Achievement honor

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Longtime ‘Voice of the Govs’ Bill Herndon has been awarded the Ohio Valley Conference’s Media Lifetime Achievement honor, accorded to a media member who formerly covered the league.

The awards were established in 2010 as a way to recognize these media members who provide publicity for the conference, its member institutions and intercollegiate athletics; perform their jobs in a fair, consistent and accurate manner; provide all-around coverage for a variety of sports; and demonstrate the ability to go above and beyond their normal beat or job description.

Austin Peay State University Athletics, Governors Club to host Business After Hours

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s intercollegiate athletics department and the Governors Club will serve as host to the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce’s August “Business After Hours,” in a 5:00pm, Thursday, August 18th event in the Club Level at Fortera Stadium.

The free event, which will take place in conjunction with the conclusion of a Governors football practice, will give attendees the opportunity to experience the game day atmosphere of Fortera Stadium. Barbecue and beverages will be provided during the event and early arrivals are encouraged to view practice from the club level seating.
