Instant Peay PlayClarksville, TN –Youth and injuries limited Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams in 2014, but a year older, a year more experienced and healthy once again, the Govs an Lady Govs are ready to make a move up on the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Lady Govs finished in eighth place in the OVC championship in 2014, while the men finished ninth, and both enter the 2015 regular season picked ninth in the OVC pre-season poll, but the men’s team return eight of 10 runners from last season while the women’s team returns all seven runners from last season.

APSU Governors, Lady Govs Cross Country picked ninth in OVC preseason polls

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men and women’s cross-country teams were both picked to finish ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference in the annual preseason coaches’ poll, released Wednesday.

The Govs received 43 points in the poll of league coaches, finishing ahead of UT Martin (35), Jacksonville State (26) and Tennessee State (12), and were three points behind Murray State (46) for eighth.

APSU welcomes student-athletes back to campus

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics welcomed back its student-athletes to campus, Sunday night, with a barbecue dinner in the Dunn Center.

During a short program, new APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey, whose first official day is Monday, introduced himself to nearly 300 student-athletes.  Ivey then introduced APSU President Alisa White, who spoke about the many positive things occurring in the campus community.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors Football shows improvement as fall work continues

 

Instant Peay PlayClarksville, TN – With its first scrimmage of 2015 under its belt, Austin Peay State University’s football team shows some encouraging signs, with the regular season less than two weeks away, but there is still much to do.

First, for the first time, Governors head coach Kirby Cannon could field what he felt was three full units on other sides of the ball – finally getting the depth on both sides of the ball that he has been building too since arriving at APSU.

Austin Peay State University Football’s Offense shows spark in first preseason Scrimmage

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Despite some early stumbles, Austin Peay State University football team’s offense broke through in the second half of the Governors first preseason scrimmage, Saturday, an encouraging sign for the coaching staff with the regular season two weeks away.

Senior Trey Taylor took the first snaps of the 91-play scrimmage, guiding the No. 1 offense through much of the day.

APSU Governors Football set for Saturday scrimmage at Governors Stadium

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – With two full weeks of practice under its belt, Austin Peay State University football team will take the field for its first full-scale scrimmage of the preseason, 9:00am, Saturday, at Governors Stadium.

The Govs will have been in full pads for just over a week, during which time head coach Kirby Cannon has learned a lot about his 2015 squad and enjoyed the continued passion exhibited by his team.

Austin Peay State University Athletics hosts Clarksville Chamber of Commerce’s “Business After Hours” at APSU Governors Stadium

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics and the Governors Club served as host to the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce’s August “Business After Hours,” Thursday, in the Club Level of Governors Stadium.

The monthly networking event for Chamber members also served as a kickoff for Austin Peay fans to celebrate the beginning of the 2015-16 competition season.

The Lady Govs soccer team opens its season 7:00pm, Friday, against UAB while volleyball will open a week later against Ohio in the Purdue Mortar Board Tournament.

Austin Peay State University Governors Golf adds two Florida natives for 2015-16

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team has added a pair of talented Florida natives for the 2015-16 season.

Alex Rios, a Coral Springs, FL, native who played as a freshman at Coker College, has transferred to the University while Sean Butscher, a Tallahassee, TN native who prepped at Lincoln High School and has been tutored by an APSU alum, has signed scholarship papers to play for the Governors.

APSU to host Business After Hours at Governors Stadium

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics and the Governors Club will serve as host to the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce’s August “Business After Hours,” 5:00pm, Thursday, on the Club Level in Governors Stadium.

Attendees will have an opportunity to experience the gameday atmosphere of Governors Stadium, with APSU President Dr. Alisa White and head football coach Kirby Cannon addressing the crowd. Fans will have an opportunity to win door prizes at the event, including two club level passes to a future APSU home contest.
