Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsHopkinsville, KY – Austin Peay State University Athletics, Murray State University Athletics and Heritage Bank announced Monday they have partnered to present the Battle of the Border, featuring a season-long multi-sport competition between the two Ohio Valley Conference rivals.

“It’s been a long-standing rivalry between two bordering states and two excellent institutions,” says John Peck, CEO of Heritage Bank. “We thought it would be fun to get into the fray on both sides of the state line and, at the same time, highlight the excellent sports histories and talented student athletes that represent Austin Peay and Murray State.”

Instant Peay Play: Huge tests await APSU Govs this week in key OVC matchups

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – When you get into conference play each game is important, but for Austin Peay State University’s football, soccer and volleyball teams this maybe the biggest week of the year so far and one that may set the stage for the rest of the season.

For football, which is still looking for its first win of the season despite putting on a strong showing versus No. 16-ranked Eastern Illinois last Saturday, they renew their rivalry with Murray State – the last team they defeated back on October 18th, 2014 – and the only other team in the Ohio Valley Conference yet to win a game this season.

APSU Football - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – After his 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half on the road at No. 16 Eastern Illinois Saturday, the Ohio Valley Conference honored Kyran Moore with OVC Specialist of the Week.

Moore, a junior from Bessemer, AL, knotted the game at 21 when he took the opening kickoff in the second half 98 yards to the house for the score.

APSU Basketball’s “Sneak Peayk” set for October 25th

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – By the time November rolls around, it will have been eight long months since fans last saw Austin Peay State University men and women’s basketball teams in action at the Dunn Center.

That’s a little too long.

So on October 25th, fans can get their first look at the 2016-17 versions and help the Governors raise a banner commemorating their 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship at the Sneak Peayk event at the Dunn Center.

Govs host APSU Cross Country Invitational, Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men and women’s cross country teams will host the annual Austin Peay Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center.

The event will feature the largest field of competitors in its three-year history, with nine collegiate schools and two additional groups – Jamul Toads and Nashville Harriers – competing. Joining the Governors in the field are Bethel, Evansville, Lindsey Wilson, Lipscomb, Memphis, Murray State, Sewanee, Welch College and West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

APSU Golf’s Justin Arens goes low in round two at Inverness Intercollegiate

APSU Men's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityToledo, OH – Junior Justin Arens had a second round to remember at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Monday, hosted by Toledo at the Inverness Club, posting the best outing by an Austin Peay State University men’s golfer in this still-young season.

The first round was marred by inconsistency along the front nine, particularly on hole No. 5, which saw four of five Governors go over par; however, the collective +24 on the front nine was softened considerably by a +10 on the back, with Arens shooting even par.
