Clarksville, TN – A little more than two hours into Austin Peay State University’s first football practice, a lightning warning halted activities, Tuesday morning.
It was a morning of newcomers getting acquainted with their respective coaches, freshmen getting adjusted to the college level and intensity from both sides of the football as evidenced by the vocal nature of respective defensive and offensive coordinators Granville Eastman and Marcus Gildersleeve.
Clarksville, TN - With Austin Peay State University football set to open camp this weekend, new head coach Kirby Cannon has announced two promotions within his staff.
Longtime defensive coordinator Granville Eastman now has the title of assistant head coach while Marcus Gildersleeve, who has been an offensive assistant for the past seven seasons, now will hold the title of offensive coordinator.

The weather was brisk, but the squad looked like they were excited to be on the field, as Cannon started laying the groundwork for what hopes to be a winning program.

Clarksville, TN – Andy McCollum, an Austin Peay State University alumnus who was a member of the school’s only Ohio Valley Conference championship team, has withdrawn for consideration as the Governors next football coach.

Clarksville, TN – Despite the program being without a head coach, Austin Peay State University signed 12 players, Wednesday, to National Letters of Intent on the first day of signing for 2013.
“I believe this is one of the finest recruiting classes we had since I have been here,” APSU interim coach Granville Eastman said. “We addressed needs and added some real quality depth to this program.”
Austin Peay Governors Football coach Christophel submits resignation to become NFL Cardinals assistant
Clarksville, TN – It is now official. Rick Christophel, Austin Peay State University’s football coach the last six seasons, has submitted his resignation in order to become the tight ends coach with the Arizona Cardinals.
“I am excited about starting a new chapter in my coaching career,” Christophel said. “I started thinking about this (coaching in the NFL), talking about this all the way back when I was in high school. What was I going to do with the rest of my life? If I couldn’t play I wanted to coach at the highest level possible.
“This has become a dream come true.”

Clarksville, TN – Paul Derrick, who played wide receiver at Austin Peay from 2002-04, has been hired as assistant football coach with Austin Peay State University, head coach Rick Christophel announced Thursday.
Derrick, who also was a graduate assistant under Christophel during the 2007 season, will work with the Govs secondary. He replaces Dainon Sidney, who resigned last week.
