Austin Peay Men’s Basketball’s Travis Betran named OVC Newcomer of the Week award, Chris Horton earns OVC Freshman of the Week

Ohio Valley ConferenceClarksville, TN – Travis Betran, who led Austin Peay State University’s come-from-behind victory against Western Carolina last week, has been selected Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

Meanwhile, freshman center Chris Horton, who had eight blocked shots in the final two games of the Triple Crown Cancun Challenge, has been named the OVC Freshman of the Week.

That was announced Monday by the OVC office.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball travels to Bowling Green to take on Western Kentucky

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay will attempt to go 2-0 for the second time in three seasons as it travels to Bowling Green, KY, to face former Ohio Valley Conference rival Western Kentucky, 7:00pm, Tuesday, in E.A. Diddle Arena.

The Governors are coming off a 75-64 home win against Samford-only the fifth time in Dave Loos’ 23 seasons APSU opened the season at home.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran named OVC Newcomer of the Week

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceClarksville, TN – Travis Betran, who scored 13 points and provided suffocating defense in his Austin Peay State University basketball debut, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

The Kilgore College transfer connected on a trio of three pointers in his debut and authored the night’s most impressive dunk in tallying his first double-digit scoring performance as APSU won its season opener, 75-64, against Samford.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball opens season with Samford at home Friday night

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – It has been a rare occasion Austin Peay men’s basketball team has opened at home, at least under head coach Dave Loos.

In fact, Friday’s 7:00pm, season opener against Samford in Dave Aaron Arena is only the fifth time in Loos’ 23 season the Governors have opened a season at home. It has been since the 2003-04 season the Governors (Knoxville College) have played at home. It has been since the 1995-96 season since the Govs played a Division I team (Northern Illinois) at home to open the season. Normally the Govs are paying the bills through guarantee games or related tournaments.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball adds late signee in Junior College star Travis Betran

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Travis Betran, who averaged 16.6 points per game as a sophomore guard at Kilgore (Texas) College, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Austin Peay State University.

Betran (pronounced “bee-tran”), a a 6-3, 185-pound Harlem, NY, native, will have two seasons remaining, beginning in 2012-13, after recently completing his associate’s degree work at Kilgore.
