Clarksville Gas and Water DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water’s ongoing sewer rehabilitation program is underway in Clarksville and the help and cooperation of residents is needed.

Contractors are currently performing sewer rehab work in the Bel Air subdivision and surrounding service area and residents will see their personnel and equipment in neighborhoods for the next 2-3 months. Hillsboro Road Water Outage and Road Closure

Clarksville Gas and Water DepartmentClarksville, TN – A Gas and Water construction crews have closed Hillsboro Road from Binks Drive to Dalewood Drive and Dalewood Drive from Hillsboro to Dale Terrace for water valve replacement work. Traffic will be directed to Preston Street and Peachers Mill Road. Water service has also been turned off on Virginia Terrace, Gino Drive, Jana Drive, Dave Drive and Hillsboro Road.

The work is expected to take 5-6 hours to complete.

Portion of Hillsboro Road Will Close for 24 Hours for Bridge Work

 

Tennessee Department of TransportationNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close a short section of Hillsboro Road near the Davidson-Williamson County line for a 24 hour period this weekend to complete major bridge work. The closure is located just south of Old Hickory Boulevard at the bridge over the Little Harpeth River. The bridge will close at 8:00pm Friday, November 5th, 2010 and will reopen no later than 8:00pm Saturday, November 6th, 2010.

During the closure, crews will place forms across the entire roadway and will pour the new concrete bridge deck. The work is part of a $3.5 million project to replace the bridges that cross over the Little Harpeth River and Beech Creek. The video of a Tennessee mountainside crashing down onto U.S. 64 in Polk County on November 10th was indeed spectacular and made national news. A rockslide that closed I-40 in North Carolina has also garnered its share of headlines and impacted thousands of motorists. With clean-up at both sites expected to take months, these events show the impact rockslides in mountainous areas can have on our transportation system, local economies and the commuters who rely on these routes.

Given Tennessee’s terrain and the vagaries of weather and other factors, the threat of such rockslides is ever present. Several years ago, TDOT began implementing a Rockfall Mitigation Program to address these transportation pitfalls. The program first identifies potential rockfall sites, and then assigns a hazard rating to each location. The hazard rating is based on the potential for a rockfall event and the impacts to travelers and surrounding communities. «Read the rest of this article»
