APSU celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with “Migration is Beautiful” series

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Visual artist Favianna Rodriguez will visit Austin Peay State University this October and provide a presentation and poster design workshop as part of programming for Hispanic Heritage Month.

In preparation for her visit, students created several eye-catching posters that incorporated Rodriguez’s artwork. Students in APSU associate professor of art Mark DeYoung’s class, Design Center, created 19 posters.

Fort Campbell Currahees discuss the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month

Fort Campbell, KY – From September 15th through October 15th, our nation will observe Hispanic Heritage month. This observance provides the Currahees an opportunity to discuss the contributions Hispanic-Americans have been making within the U.S. Army since the Revolutionary War.

Originally titled “Hispanic American Week,” the observance began in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson; it was expanded to 30 days and written in to law under President Ronald Reagan on August 17th, 1988.

The 2nd Brigade Combat Team’s “Strike” MSG McCain Dining Facility strives for culinary excellence

 

2nd Brigade Combat Team - StrikeFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Feeding the soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team is something the soldiers staffing the 2nd Brigade Combat Team “Strike” Dining Facility (DFAC) take very seriously,they constantly strive to provide the soldiers with a wide variety of meal options and mix it up from time to time with the meals prepare to feed the soldiers on holidays and other special occasions.

The facility Admin office sets up the menu each week along with a projected daily headcount which is then approved by the Dining Facility Manager, in this case SFC Mendoza. The Admin office also accounts for the money spent by the facility to ensure that they stay within their budget and that waste and abuse is prevented.

Fort Campbell to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month October 9th

 

Diversity and Inclusion Awareness Seminar Features Keynote Speakers, Latin Food Sampling

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – October is Hispanic Heritage Month and the Fort Campbell Equal Employment Opportunity Office will hold a diversity and inclusion awareness seminar October 9th at 11:00am in the Dale Wayrynen Recreation Center here.

Keynote speakers to be featured include Michelle Pacheco-Guzman from the Fort Campbell Equal Employment Opportunity Office, and Miguel Ruiz-Aviles, of the Department of Languages and Literature at Austin Peay State University.

Comedian Santiago to perform at APSU on September 20th in Clement

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Comedian Bill Santiago, who has been featured on Comedy Central, will perform at Austin Peay State University next month as part of Hispanic Heritage Month events.

Santiago, who also is the author of “Pardon My Spanglish,” will entertain at 6:00pm, Tuesday, September 20th in Clement Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public; however, his show is recommended for mature audiences due to strong language.

The Hispanic Organization for Progress & Education opening their new offices on Friday

 

The Hispanic Organization for Progress & Education will be holding a grand opening celebration for their new offices (410 Church Street) from 10:00am till 2:00pm on Friday September 10th 2010. The opening will also serve as their kickoff for the Hispanic Heritage Month. The office is located next door to Forest Street United Methodist Church, there ample is parking available in their parking lot located across the street from the new office.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. «Read the rest of this article»
