Louisville, KY – Freshman Mel Pavel came through with a clutch hit in the top of the eighth inning — Friday morning at the University of Louisville Red and Black Classic — then applied the game-ending tag at the plate on the backend of a double play to end the game, as the Lady Govs defeated the Miami (Ohio) Red Hawks, 4-3, in eight innings.

APSU Lady Govs Softball travels to Louisville

Clarksville, TN -Austin Peay State University‘s softball team will play its season’s final in-season tournament this weekend as it travels to Louisville to participate in the Red and Black Classic.

Along with the Lady Govs (5-3), the field for the classic will feature Miami-Ohio (2-8), Illinois State (11-10), as well as two nationally ranked teams in No. 14 Michigan (14-5) and host No. 13 Louisville (16-3).

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University concludes its seven-game home stand when it hosts Michigan State in a three-game weekend series, Friday-Saturday, at Raymond C. Hand Park .

The Govs are off to their best start since 1958 and bring a six-game win streak into the weekend set. Meanwhile, the Spartans will begin a eight-game roadtrip through the Mid-South after opening their season in South Carolina.

Chantelle Grey named APSU Athlete of the Week

Clarksville, TN – Senior Chantelle Grey, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Grey was the dominant athlete for the Lady Govs at last weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois. Her 2:12.61 mark in the 800m run won the event by nearly three seconds over her next closest competition. In victory, she became the first Lady Gov to win gold in the indoor 800m since Sheena Gooding won four years in a row (1999-2002) during her Hall of Fame career.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball’s Jordan Hankins named Tennessee Sport Writers Association’s Player of the Week

Governors named Central Region Team of the Week

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University second baseman Jordan Hankins was named the Tennessee Sport Writers Association’s Player of the Week, Tuesday. In addition, the Govs baseball team was named the Central Region Team of the Week by the CollegeBaseballInsider.com website.

Hankins, of Wentzville, MO, went 9-for-18 in four games last week, posting a multi-hit performance in each game. He went 2-for-4 with a walk and RBI in a midweek victory at Middle Tennessee.

Austin Peay State University baseball team defeats Illinois State 9-6

Clarksville, TN – It was a beautiful day for baseball at Raymond C. Hand Park, and Austin Peay took full advantage of it.

After having its offense held in check for four innings, Saturday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth against three Illinois State pitchers, as the Governors rallied for a 9-6 victory over the Redbirds.
