APSU Athletics Department sports New Faces

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – A new academic year brings a host of new faces into the Austin Peay State University athletics family, with an ever-expanding department bringing an increased demand for talented staff.

Two additions were made in the academic services area. Ryan Combs, recently of Belmont, joins the department as an academic coordinator working alongside Austin Peay’s soccer, baseball and women’s basketball programs. In addition, Kara Carpenter joins the department as an advisor to the football team after spending last season at Texas A&M-Commerce. She graduated from Western Carolina in 2013.

Tennessee Titans announce 2016 NFL Schedule

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans open the 2016 regular season at home against the Minnesota Vikings on September 1th1 and host the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos on December 11th. The Titans also will appear in a Thursday night primetime contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Nissan Stadium on October 27th.

“Opening up with Minnesota, a playoff team, will be good test for us at home,” said Titans head coach Mike Mularkey. “We haven’t opened up at home since 2012, it will be nice for our fans – opening day for our fans, there is nothing like it.”

Peyton Manning after 18 years in the NFL, retires

Denver BroncosDenver, CO – On Monday, March 7th, 2016, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning announces his retirement during a press conference at the UCHealth Training Center. Manning talked about his retirement during the press conference.

“In my very first NFL game, I completed my first pass to Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk. I threw a touchdown in that same game to Marvin Harrison, who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this August. The quarterback for our opponent, the Miami Dolphins, was, after my dad, my favorite player – Hall of Famer Dan Marino – who on the first third down of the game completed a 25-yard skinny post and it was the damndest throw I’d ever seen. Later, I completed a pass to tight end Marcus Pollard down the middle and somebody hit me really hard and after I got up I told myself, ‘I know I can play in this league.’

Tennessee Titans to hold annual 5k Race at Nissan Stadium May 21st

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans are giving fans a chance to combine their love of running with their passion for their hometown team by hosting the fourth annual Tennessee Titans 5K Run/Walk presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors on Saturday, May 21st (8:00am) at Nissan Stadium.

The Titans welcome fans of all abilities to participate in the race, which starts outside of Nissan Stadium and finishes on the field at the 50-yard line. Titans players and cheerleaders will be on hand to cheer on participants throughout the 3.1-mile course.

APSU announces Marcus West co-Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Football coach

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Marcus West elected to follow Will Healy from Chattanooga to Clarksville and takes over as Austin Peay State University co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2016. Previously, West spent seven seasons with the Mocs, coaching the defensive line.

West’s time in Chattanooga coincided with Chattanooga’s rise from Southern Conference also-ran to perennial conference champion.
