APSU’s Chris Horton named OVC Freshman of the Year joins Travis Betran on OVC All-Newcomer team

Brentwood, TN – Chris Horton, who became the first conference player to block 100 or more shots since 1996-97, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.
In addition, Horton and Govs’ leading scorer Travis Betran were been named to the OVC All-Newcomer team. The OVC post-season basketball honors were announced Tuesday by the league office after a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

Murray, KY – In a season of frustrating losses, chalk up maybe the most painstaking for Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, Saturday afternoon in the CFSB Center.
All-America guard Isaiah Canaan connected on a traditional three-point play and a long three-point shot in overtime to lead Murray State to 78-65 victory in an Ohio Valley Conference.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University‘s final minute rally came up short as it fell to rival Murray State, 71-68, Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference basketball action.
The loss dropped APSU to 5-13 overall, 1-3 in OVC play, while Murray State improved to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the OVC. It was the Govs’ fifth loss by three points or less this season.

Austin Peay Mens Basketball’s John Fraley overcomes concussion to earn Second-Team All-OVC

 Nashville, TN – The start of John Fraley’s senior season was as inauspicious as the beginning of his Austin Peay basketball career.
Fraley, who was redshirted in 2007-08 to acclimate himself to the Division I game, suffered a concussion in the 20110-12 season opening game at Middle Tennessee and proceeded to miss the Govs next nine games, a stretch that saw APSU go 1-8 without its big man. Murray, KY – Coming off their first loss of the season, Murray State entered Saturday night’s return game against the Austin Peay Governors eager to prove to the rest of the nation that the Racers are still the team to beat in the Ohio Valley Conference.
And, unfortunately for the Govs, the Racers had no problems proving that point as Isaiah Canaan scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, fueling the Racers to a 82-63 blowout win over their conference rivals in the CFSB Center.

Austin Peay travels to Murray State, 7:30pm, Saturday, looking to snap a three game losing streak that saw the Govs lose, 94-55, Monday at Belmont. Meanwhile, the Racers saw their 23-game winning streak end at home to Tennessee State, Thursday.

Nashville, TN – The Austin Peay Governors travel to Nashville Tennessee to take on the Belmont Bruins at the Curb Event Center Monday night starting at 7:00pm.
The Govs will have to deal with the two-headed inside monster of 6-9 Mick Hedgepth and 6-10 Scott Saunders for Belmont. The latter scored 23 against the Governors in their first meeting, a 77-67 Bruins victory in Clarksville back in December.
