Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville claimed its first Ohio Valley Conference road win, Thursday night, by handing Austin Peay State University a 66-53 decision in Dave Aaron Arena.

It was the Govs second straight loss and ninth in their last 10 games. The decision dropped APSU to 5-14 overall and just 1-4 in the OVC.

The Govs played and won against the Cougars last year in Edwardsville in the respective programs’ first meeting. But this time the Cougars come to Clarksville as full-fledged Ohio Valley Conference members and West Division rivals.

Austin Peay Mens Basketball’s John Fraley overcomes concussion to earn Second-Team All-OVC

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceJohn FraleyNashville, TN – The start of John Fraley’s senior season was as inauspicious as the beginning of his Austin Peay basketball career.

Fraley, who was redshirted in 2007-08 to acclimate himself to the Division I game, suffered a concussion in the 20110-12 season opening game at Middle Tennessee and proceeded to miss the Govs next nine games, a stretch that saw APSU go 1-8 without its big man. Austin Peay Governors Basketball claims first OVC road win with 80-67 decision at SIU Edwardsville

Austin Peay State University GovernorsEdwardsville, IL – Shooting 61.3 percent in the second half, Austin Peay State University pulled away from Southern Illinois Edwardsville to capture an 80-67 Ohio Valley Conference victory, Thursday night, at the Vadalabene Center.
The victory was the Govs’ fourth straight and improved them to 4-3 in OVC play, 7-13 overall. It was the Govs’ first OVC road win.

SIUE, meanwhile, slips to 3-4 in the OVC and 5-11 overall. This was the first meeting between the OVC newcomer Cougars and the Governors.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsEdwardsville, IL – This is Austin Peay’s first meeting with the Cougars. The Governors come in amidst a three-game winning streak to even its OVC record at 3-3. They are seeking their first league road win.

After scoring 80 points in a 15-point victory against Eastern Kentucky, the Govs ground out wins against Jacksonville State, 60-57, and Tennessee State, 69-63, the latter coming Monday night. The Govs placed four players in double figures, led by the inside duo of John Fraley (16 points) and Melvin Baker (15 points) as they combined for 11 of 19 shooting.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball outlast Tennessee State Tigers in the Dunn Center to improve to 3-3 in OVC

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Don’t look now, but a familiar name is quietly creeping up the OVC standings.

After starting 0-3 in the conference for the first time in 20 years, Austin Peay evened its conference mark Monday, using timely defense and persistent offense to defeat Tennessee State 69-63 in the Dunn Center.

Facing a decided height advantage against the long and lengthy Tigers, the Govs (6-13, 3-3 OVC) were outrebounded by the Tigers (10-10, 3-4 OVC) 38-29.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay will conclude its three-game weekend homestand when it plays host to Tennessee State, 7:30 pm, Monday, in Ohio Valley Conference at Dave Aaron Arena.

The Governors are coming off a tight victory Saturday. After owning a 10-point lead with 5:01 left, APSU needed a field goal and two free throws from Jerome Clyburn in the final 30 seconds to hold off Jacksonville State, 60-57.
