Clarksville, TN – One Austin Peay State University basketball player has elected to forgo the remainder of his basketball career to pursue his educational goals while two other Governors have chosen to leave the program to pursue other basketball opportunities.

The Govs played and won against the Cougars last year in Edwardsville in the respective programs’ first meeting. But this time the Cougars come to Clarksville as full-fledged Ohio Valley Conference members and West Division rivals.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball opens season with Samford at home Friday night

Clarksville, TN – It has been a rare occasion Austin Peay men’s basketball team has opened at home, at least under head coach Dave Loos.
In fact, Friday’s 7:00pm, season opener against Samford in Dave Aaron Arena is only the fifth time in Loos’ 23 season the Governors have opened a season at home. It has been since the 2003-04 season the Governors (Knoxville College) have played at home. It has been since the 1995-96 season since the Govs played a Division I team (Northern Illinois) at home to open the season. Normally the Govs are paying the bills through guarantee games or related tournaments.

Edwardsville, IL – This is Austin Peay’s first meeting with the Cougars. The Governors come in amidst a three-game winning streak to even its OVC record at 3-3. They are seeking their first league road win.
After scoring 80 points in a 15-point victory against Eastern Kentucky, the Govs ground out wins against Jacksonville State, 60-57, and Tennessee State, 69-63, the latter coming Monday night. The Govs placed four players in double figures, led by the inside duo of John Fraley (16 points) and Melvin Baker (15 points) as they combined for 11 of 19 shooting.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team has added to its backcourt and frontcourt with a pair of prep signings for the 2012-13 season as the early recruiting period opened, Wednesday.
Cory Arentsen, a 6-5, 185-pound guard from Mater Dei High School in Breese, IL, and Preston Herring, a 6-7 forward from West Limestone High School in Lester, AL, have signed national letters of intent to play basketball for the Govs.

Govs set to hold annual Reigning Red event to tipoff basketball practice

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s basketball team officially will open practice, 8:00pm, Friday, for its annual Reigning Red in Dave Aaron Arena.
Reigning Red not only will feature the traditional Wendy’s Chili dinner and contests, it will also see the 2011-12 Governors and Lady Govs basketball teams introduced to the Governors and Lady Govs fans.
The Governors are coming off a 20-14 campaign that saw them finished tied for second in the Ohio Valley Conference race and play in the College Basketball Invitational.
