APSU’s Chris Horton named OVC Freshman of the Year joins Travis Betran on OVC All-Newcomer team

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Chris Horton, who became the first conference player to block 100 or more shots since 1996-97, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.

In addition, Horton and Govs’ leading scorer Travis Betran were been named to the OVC All-Newcomer team. The OVC post-season basketball honors were announced Tuesday by the league office after a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Kellen Thornton tipped in a missed shot at the regulation buzzer and then Tennessee State scored the overtime’s first seven points as the Tigers defeated Austin Peay State University, 88-82, Thursday night in Ohio Valley Conference basketball action.

Austin Peay Mens Basketball’s John Fraley overcomes concussion to earn Second-Team All-OVC

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceJohn FraleyNashville, TN – The start of John Fraley’s senior season was as inauspicious as the beginning of his Austin Peay basketball career.

Fraley, who was redshirted in 2007-08 to acclimate himself to the Division I game, suffered a concussion in the 20110-12 season opening game at Middle Tennessee and proceeded to miss the Govs next nine games, a stretch that saw APSU go 1-8 without its big man. Austin Peay Governors Basketball gets mauled by Tennessee State Tigers

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – Despite getting 21 points from John Fraley, Austin Peay men’s basketball team lost 77-57 in Ohio Valley Conference action at Tennessee State, Monday night.

Fraley and Melvin Baker – 14 points -  combined to make 13 of 20 shots, while the rest of the Govs combined to make only 6 of 29 from the floor. Tennessee State, meanwhile, shot 68 percent (19 of 48) in the second half for a total 53-percent shooting performance.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball heads to Tennessee State to complete busy weekend slate

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – For the second time in less than a week, Austin Peay heads on the road with a place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings on the line. Last Thursday, the Governors dropped a disappointing 65-60 decision to Southeast Missouri with second place on the line.

This time the Govs head to Tennessee State, 7:00pm, Monday, with third-place as the prize. The two teams are currently locked in a third-place with respective 6-4 OVC records.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay will conclude its three-game weekend homestand when it plays host to Tennessee State, 7:30 pm, Monday, in Ohio Valley Conference at Dave Aaron Arena.

The Governors are coming off a tight victory Saturday. After owning a 10-point lead with 5:01 left, APSU needed a field goal and two free throws from Jerome Clyburn in the final 30 seconds to hold off Jacksonville State, 60-57.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay will play host to Jacksonville State, 7:30pm, Saturday, in an Ohio Valley Conference contest. It is the only time this season that these two teams will play each other in the regular season.

Shooting has been an issue for the Govs this season, at least before the Govs’ 80-65 victory, Thursday night against Eastern Kentucky. For the season, APSU is shooting 43.3 percent, but that was bolstered by a 29 of 48 (60.4 percent) night against Eastern Kentucky.
