Khowst Province, Afghanistan – Soldiers of Troop C, “Shadow,” 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), were presented with awards for valor and combat for their actions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom at an awards ceremony at Camp Clark, Afghanistan, May 1st.

Khowst Province, Afghanistan – After an active 9-month deployment to eastern Afghanistan, Soldiers assigned to 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), known as the “Iron Rakkasans,” are preparing for the transition to life back on American soil.

Trip to the dentist: How partnership builds a healthier Afghanistan

Khowst Province, Afghanistan – As the Afghan National Army Soldier lay in the dentist’s chair, visibly uncomfortable and in pain, the ANA dentist started probing the partially decayed tooth that was in need of extraction.

Despite being in a country where very few medical and dental facilities can be found, the ANA Garrison Support Unit Troop Medical Clinic located at Camp Parsa, an ANA training base, is a level-two healthcare facility that treats nearly 300 patients a week.

U.S. Soldiers coach Afghan Farmers for superior harvest

U.S. ArmyKhowst Province, Afghanistan – While some Coalition Force units build up the Afghan National Security Forces others have a different mission within the area of operations.

Soldiers assigned to 5-19th Agribusiness Development Team, Indiana National Guard, assist the Afghan people through an emphasis on agricultural techniques.

“For about the last year we have focused on their knowledge of basic farming tasks and training those tasks to local farmers,” said U.S. Army Maj. Gregory Motz, the executive officer for the Khowst Province Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Fort Campbell 3rd Brigade Combat Team Medic provides “healthy” knowledge to ANSF

Khowst Province, Afghanistan – The brightly lit hallways lined with numerous medical supplies look spotless under the florescent lights within Forward Operating Base Salerno’s medical center.

Military medical personnel quickly stride to and from rooms like bees around a honey comb completing their daily duties.

This facility, built to aid and save lives is also training grounds for Afghan National Security Forces aspiring to become medics.

“Five minutes,” yells the back door gunner.

Fort Campbell Rakkasans enjoy Easter services

Khowst Province, Afghanistan – As the sun rose on a beautiful day in eastern Afghanistan, hundreds of Soldiers from 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), came together to celebrate Easter, March 31st.

Eight different Religious Support Teams at locations across Khowst and Paktya provinces led more than 15 services for more than 400 Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and civilians throughout the weekend.

Fort Campbell 3rd Brigade Combat Team Ministry Soldiers make dream a reality before Easter

Khowst Province, Afghanistan – Within the early days of their deployment, a team of chaplain’s assistants came together with a plan: a mutual agreement making something beautiful for all to enjoy, helping make days here in Afghanistan brighter.

Within their offices at Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, the team of assistants from various battalions within the 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), decided to restore the chapel after it had been heavily damaged in an attack in the summer of 2012.

Stained glass windows that were hand-painted by a team of chaplain’s assistants are now on display at the chapel on Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan. A team of chaplain’s assistants teamed up together to finish the restoration of their chapel after it was badly damaged by an attack on the FOB in the summer of 2012. For the last three generations, the Fay household shares something very unique.

U.S. Army Spc. Robert Fay Jr., an infantryman assigned to Company D, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), is the third Soldier to be part of the Rakkasans in his family; following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps.
