88 APSU Governors named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Eighty-eight Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Friday, following the 2016-17 academic year.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chose NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

Austin Peay’s numbers include 22 athletes who competed in multiple sports during the season and are counted just once in the department’s total.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay begins a regular-season ending seven game road trip when it meets Notre Dame in a three-game nonconference series at Eck Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.

The three-game set begins with a 6:05pm (CT), Friday contest before continuing both Saturday and Sunday.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN –  Austin Peay State University’s baseball team wraps up the home portion of its 2017 schedule with a pair of midweek contests.The Govs will first host Evansville in a 6:00pm, Tuesday contest.

Austin Peay then will host Lipscomb in a 1:00pm, Wednesday contest that was moved up from its original May 16th date.

The Govs bats pounded out 52 runs during last week’s four games while posting a .365 batting average and hitting eight home runs.

APSU Baseball loses 10-8 to late UT Martin Rally

APSU BaseballMartin, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team used a trio of eighth-inning home runs to build a four-run lead but could not hold on in a 10-8 walkoff loss to UT Martin, Saturday, in game one of a Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Skyhawk Field.

A nip-and-tuck contest seemingly turned Austin Peay’s (19-21, 10-12 OVC) way in the eighth inning. With the game tied 4-4 entering the frame, designated hitter Brett Newberg drove a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left center to give the Govs the lead.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Junior second baseman Garrett Giovannelli finished with five hits and five RBI but Austin Peay State University’s baseball team dropped a wild 21-17 contest to Western Kentucky, Tuesday night, at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The wild affair saw both teams score seven runs in the first inning.
