OVC’s Tennessee State Lady Tigers loses to Kentucky Wildcats in NCAA Tournament

Tennessee State TigersLexington, KY Brianna Lawrence poured in 16 points, but the Tennessee State women’s basketball team’s historic season ended, Friday, with a, 97-52, loss to Kentucky in the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Briana Morrow added 11 points for TSU (18-13), while UK (24-9) had six players finish in double-figures led by Linnae Harper’s 16.

The Lady Tigers shot 26 percent for the game (18-of-69) and had 26 turnovers. UK edged the Lady Tigers in rebounds, 52 to 34, and went to the free throw line 42 times.

Tennessee State Women’s Basketball heads to Lexington to face Kentucky in NCAA Tournament

Tennessee State TigersNashville, TN – The Tennessee State women’s basketball team earned a No. 15 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will travel to Lexington, KY to play No. 2 seeded Kentucky on Friday, March 20th at 1:30pm CT.

The Lady Tigers heard the news at an on-campus selection show party held for the team on Monday night. Up to that point, they had secured a spot in the “Big Dance” by virtue of earning the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic-berth, but the seeding, opponent and location were unknown.

Tennessee State Lady Tigers defeat UT Martin Skyhawks 64-60 to win OVC Championship

 

Tennessee State TigersNashville, TN – It took overtime, but the Tennessee State women’s basketball team was crowned Ohio Valley Conference Champions following a, 64-60, win over No. 1 seeded UT Martin on Saturday.

With the win, TSU is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.

Brianna Lawrence led TSU with 22 points, 18 of which came after halftime. Her performance earned her OVC Tournament MVP honors following the game. Rachel Allen (13 points) and Chelsea Hudson (eight points) joined Lawrence on the All-OVC Tournament Team.

Tennessee State Lady Tigers Basketball moves on to OVC Tournament Championship with win over SIU Edwardsville

 

Tennessee State TigersNashville, TN – On the 20th Anniversary of the Tennessee State women’s basketball team’s last OVC Championship Game appearance, the Lady Tigers are back again in 2015 after a 71-59 win over SIUE, Friday.

The TSU (17-12) post players were the team’s main offensive weapon, as Jayda Johnson (17), Chelsea Hudson (17) and Briana Morrow (11) all scored in double figures.

The Lady Tigers also had success shooting from outside and were 10-of-21 from beyond the arc. Those 10 triples were the second-most for the team this season.
