Inconsistency plagues Lady Govs in loss at Jacksonville State

APSU Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJacksonville, AL – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team was unable to solve Jacksonville State losing a five-set match (20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 13-15) in Ohio Valley Conference action at Mathews Coliseum. It is the third consecutive five-set match the two teams have played in the series, the Gamecocks winning all three.

Jacksonville State (8-7, 3-1 OVC) needed a 6-1 set-ending burst to win the opening set, 25-20. The set saw the teams trade the lead five times, but neither team could gain more than a three-point advantage until the final JSU burst. Austin Peay led by two points, 9-7, early and had an 18-17 lead late, but committed six errors (three attack, two reception and one setting) in the final run.

Lady Govs return to OVC play with crucial road trip

APSU Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Two dangerous opponents await Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team as they return to Ohio Valley Conference play, Friday and Saturday. The Lady Govs will travel to Tennessee Tech for a 7:00pm, Friday contest before visiting defending OVC champion Jacksonville State in a 2:00pm, Saturday match. Both matches can be seen on OVCSports.tv, the league’s live streaming video site.

Austin Peay (11-2, 2-0 OVC) will look to bounce back from a three-set loss to Lipscomb, Tuesday, in Clarksville. It was the Lady Govs first loss since losing to Mississippi State, August 27th – the season’s first day. Austin Peay’s offense had a particularly bad night, as Lipscomb held it to a season-low .114 attack percentage. Sophomore Nikki Doyle, the OVC “Offensive Player of the Week,” led the Lady Govs with 10 kills.
