APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Assured a spot in the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference baseball championship with six league games left, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team continues jockeying for seeding with a three-game OVC set at SIU Edwardsville, Friday-Sunday, at Roy Lee Field in Edwardsville, Illinois.

The Govs enter the weekend tied for fourth place with Southeast Missouri but are in a four-team logjam which includes the second through fifth seeds in the upcoming tournament.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team could not get on track and dropped its Ohio Valley Conference series finale against Southeast Missouri, 20-4, Saturday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (17-11, 7-5 OVC) still clinched the series victory by virtue of winning both games of Friday’s doubleheader.

APSU Baseball’s Garrett Kueber hits grand slam in Govs 19-7 win over Murray State

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN –  Shortstop Garrett Kueber hit a grand slam and drove in six runs as Austin Peay State University’s baseball team corralled Murray State, 19-7, Sunday at Raymond C. Hand Park to complete a sweep of the three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.

Sunday’s finale started much like Saturday’s contest with Murray State (10-10, 2-4 OVC) grabbing an early 2-0 lead on right fielder Brandon Gutzler’s two-run home run in the first inning.

APSU Baseball falls at home to Middle Tennessee, 9-0

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team fell behind early and could not recover, dropping a 9-0 nonconference decision to Middle Tennessee, Tuesday night at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Middle Tennessee (9-8) jumped out a quick lead when it sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring six runs. Left fielder Blake Benefield had a two-run double and catcher Jake Hagenow added a two-run single to help build the 6-0 lead.

Austin Peay State University Baseball season starts in a week, OVC Preseason Poll announced

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN –  In just seven days Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will take the field at Raymond C. Hand Park to begin its 2018 campaign, opening with a 3:00pm, February 16th contest against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Third-year head coach Travis Janssen has led the Governors to the Ohio Valley Conference baseball tournament in each of his first two seasons after they missed the tournament the two years before his arrival.

Austin Peay State University Student-Athletes finish fall semester with record 3.110 GPA

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – An impressive fall semester for Austin Peay State University’s student athletes translated into the classroom with the department’s varsity teams posting a record 3.110 grade-point average for the Fall 2017 semester.

The department saw a record 204 student-athletes receive academic recognition during the recently concluded fall semester. Records also fell with the total number of athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll (97), earning Austin Peay dean’s list recognition (107) and posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester (51).

88 APSU Governors named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Eighty-eight Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Friday, following the 2016-17 academic year.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chose NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

Austin Peay’s numbers include 22 athletes who competed in multiple sports during the season and are counted just once in the department’s total.

Instant Peay Play: Several APSU Baseball Govs still playing as America celebrates the fourth

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – From coast to coast and even Canada, Austin Peay State University has several of its baseball players plying their skills on several summer-league teams, as they continue to improve their skill for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.

Several of the Govs are hitting over .300 this summer for their respective teams, but arguably having the best summer across the board at the plate is outfielder Imani Willis, who is currently hitting at a .350 clip for the Kokomo (IN) Jackrabbits of the Prospect League.

APSU Baseball players can be found near and far in summer leagues

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – This summer you’ll be able to find Austin Peay State University baseball players dotting rosters from Florida to Alaska and points in-between with 18 Governors continuing their baseball seasons in collegiate summer leagues across the United States and Canada.

Two Governors – pitcher Jacques Pucheu and utility man Malcolm Tipler – have made the long trek north to the land of the midnight sun, far from their southern roots. The duo are playing this summer for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska Baseball League, which begins its schedule Tuesday night.

APSU BaseballOxford, AL – Austin Peay State University baseball right fielder Chase Hamilton hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, tying APSU’s career home run record, but the Governors saw their season come to an end with a 6-1 loss to Belmont, Thursday night, in the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship at Choccolocco Park.
