Nashville Sounds drop 4-2 game to Iowa Cubs

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – It was a sloppy Thursday night in Nashville between the Sounds and the Iowa Cubs in front of 10,469 fans at First Tennessee Park. A total of six runs scored but just two were earned in Iowa’s 4-2 victory.

The first two batters of the ball game reached on base hits for the Sounds. Franklin Barreto came around to open the scoring on a sacrifice fly from Matt Olson.

Nashville starter, Paul Blackburn was superb through the first five innings but things unraveled for him in the sixth. Stephen Bruno reached on an error by the shortstop Franklin Barreto. Blackburn then issued back-to-back free passes to load the bases for Jacob Hannemann who promptly singled home the game-tying run. The Sounds hurler recorded outs on the next two hitters but yielded a two-run double to Victor Caratini to surrender the lead to the I-Cubs.

Nashville Sounds fall in extra innings to Memphis Redbirds, 10-9

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – The Memphis Redbirds scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 12th inning and outlasted the Nashville Sounds, 10-9, Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park. Sunday’s win secured the series for Memphis, and gave them a five-game lead over Nashville in the American Southern Division standings.

Breyvic Valera was the hero when his base hit up the middle scored Wilfredo Tovar with the winning run with just one out in the 12th inning.

The knock came just moments after the Sounds (32-29) took a 9-8 lead on Matt Chapman’s 16th home run of the season – a solo shot in the top of the 12th that broke the tie. Chapman’s blast extended his hitting streak to a career-long 10 games.

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – The Nashville Sounds rallied behind a big two-run double from Renato Nuñez in the top of the eighth inning en route to a 6-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park Saturday night.

The double was the second of the night for Nunez who is hitting .405 (17-for-42) over his last 12 games.

Young left-hander Dalton Sawyer was pressed into action for Nashville and made a spot start after being transferred from Single-A Beloit earlier in the day. The southpaw allowed a two-run double to Carson Kelly in the first inning but settled in nicely and delivered a quality start.

Nashville Sounds fall late to Albuquerque Isotopes, 7-5

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The losing streak for the Nashville Sounds hit four games as the Albuquerque Isotopes took game one of the series, 7-5, in front of 7,860 fans at First Tennessee Park Thursday night.

The Sounds (13-17) held a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning but the bullpen faltered down the stretch. Michael Brady allowed a run in the seventh, and Aaron Kurcz coughed up the lead in the eighth when Albuquerque plated a pair of runs to take a 5-4 lead. It’s the first time the Sounds have lost a game when leading after six innings.

The loss wasted a solid effort by Sounds starter Chris Smith. The veteran right-hander allowed two runs on four hits over six innings. He walked a pair and struck out six. Smith’s third-inning strikeout of Mike Tauchman was the 1,000th of his career.
