With an eye to the 2008 presidential election and primary elections coming up in August, Chairman Gene Lewis issued a reminder that the Montgomery County Democratic Party will hold their monthly meeting at on Tuesday, June 24, at 7 p.m. at the Smith-Trahern Mansion on McClure Street in downtown Clarksville. Clarksville for Obama, which is a separate organization specifically designed to support the presidential candidacy of Sen. Barrack Obama, meets weekly on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the New York Pizza Depot Restaurant at 3247 Fort Campbell Boulevard (across from Fort Campbell’s gate 3 in North Clarksville. Now that Barack Obama has won the democratic nomination what does this mean for the country? For Clarksville-Montgomery County? Well, our city is only the home of Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne division.
Have we forgotten that we are still at war in two foreign countries Iraq and Afghanistan? And that over 4,000 troops have died so far and over 21,000 injured in a war that has been proven to be over nothing more than oil, greed and power? While the rich get richer through billion dollar government contract deals in both of these countries the rest of us have to suffer through an economic crisis under yet another president Bush.
And in case you haven’t noticed but our local economy is suffering double jeopardy due to the deployment of over 3,000 troops from Fort Campbell to these countries, not to mention how it is affecting military family members — and the list goes on. «Read the rest of this article»

The Montgomery County Democratic Party Executive Committee will host a “Meet and Greet” for U.S. Senate Candidates Bob Tuke and Mike Pagent, along with local candidates for 22nd District Senate, 67th district and County Candidates. The “Meet and Greet” will run from 5:30pm -8:00pm, Friday May 16, at IAM Union Hall, 121 Union Rd. The public is invited to come to this event and meet the candidates and discuss the issues. Suggested donation is $5.00.

The Montgomery County Democratic Party will be holding a formal grand opening celebration for their new party headquarters located at 120 Legion Street in downtown Clarksville. The ceremony will be held Friday July 28, 2006 at 5pm.

The Montgomery County Democratic Party will meet at the Smith-Trahern Mansion in downtown Clarksville on Tuesday, June 27, at 7 p.m. The meetings are always held on the last Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the same location.
