APSU Governors Basketball ends season at Southeast Missouri Redhawks

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUCape Girardeau, MO – Austin Peay will close out the 2014-15 season when it travels to Southeast Missouri for a 6:00pm, Saturday, Ohio Valley Conference contest at the Show Me Center.

The contest will have little on the line for both teams. The Governors were eliminated from the OVC tourney race a week ago and SEMO earned the final spot in the OVC tournament, Thursday, without even playing.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball rally falls short in loss to Murray State Racers

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUMurray, KY – Facing a ‘win and you’re in’ scenario, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team couldn’t quite get over the hump, falling to Murray State, 72-67, Saturday, at the CFSB Center.

The Lady Govs battled back to take the lead in the game’s final moments, but were unable to sustain their success and keep the Racers from scoring in the end.

APSU Governors Baseball picked 4th in OVC, Alex Robles and Ridge Smith selected for preseason squad

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference’s preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors, Friday. Sophomores Ridge Smith and Alex Robles were named to the league’s 15-man preseason squad.

Austin Peay, which begins its 75th baseball campaign in one week, received 149 total points and was picked behind preseason favorite and defending regular-season champion Southeast Missouri which received 12 first-place votes and 187 total points.

Chris Horton name APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior center Chris Horton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

In perhaps the best week of a stellar career, Horton averaged 23.0 points – equaling his career-best with 23 points in both games – alongside 14.5 boards and 2.5 blocks for the Govs. The 6-9 big man shot 50 percent from the floor (14-for-28) and 72 percent (18-for-25) from the free-throw line.

Against Morehead State, Horton became the first Gov since Derek Wright in 2008 to get to the free-throw line 20 times in a game – he hit 15 of those on the way to a 23-point, 11-rebound night against the Eagles.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Softball opens season looking to make postseason after two near misses

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – The past two seasons Austin Peay State University’s softball team went into the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to make the Ohio Valley Conference post-season tournament – only to come up short.

But as they open their 2015 regular season this weekend at the Mississippi State Bulldog Kickoff Classic, the Lady Govs hope to clear that final hurdle and make a return to the postseason.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUHuntington, WV – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team posted a strong day, particularly in the sprints, at the Thundering Herd Invitational, Saturday, at the Cline Athletic Complex.

In the season’s first scored event, Austin Peay finished sixth out of 12 squads with 54 points.

Austin Peay State University Men’s Golf picked second, Women’s Golf seventh in OVC preseason poll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – The young Austin Peay State University men’s golf team has been picked to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll as picked by the league men’s coaches. Meanwhile, the Lady Govs were chosen seventh on the women’s side.

Defending champion Jacksonville State, with 95 points, was picked to win the men’s championship while Morehead State (77 points) got the nod on the women’s side.
