Back in 2004 Jon Stewart appeared on the CNN show Crossfire with Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson to promote his Book “America: A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction”. During his interview he issued a scathing indictment of the press and media in this country and thier dumbing down of the public discourse.
You can sometimes say things in jest, that you never would be able to say outright.

Normal.
It’s a word that so many of us hope applies to us, yet in reality, we are denied that application. But what is “normal?” I recall a line of dialogue from Star Trek: Generations where the all-too-forgettable villain says to the blind Geordi LaForge, “Normal is what everyone else is, and you are not.” Sure, the line is lame. But then, so was the movie.

A few years back, I read an interesting book, “The Creature from Jekyll Island” by G. Edward Griffin. It is a book that reads like an investigative novel, about the history of federal or nationalized banking systems that have been tried in the United States. It argues that the federal income tax is not needed because of the hidden ‘tax’ of inflation through manipulating the currency production.
I also read a book about Andrew Jackson and his campaign to end the national banking system at the time (he succeeded actually). I suppose for a while there it was the flavor of the month in my reading. «Read the rest of this article»
