MCDP, Clarksville for Obama gather to await official DNC nomination

The Montgomery County Democratic Party, in partnership with Clarksville For Obama, will host a Democratic Convention Watch Party on August 28, 2008 at the Montgomery County Democratic Party headquarters building, 534 Madison Street (on the corner of University and Madison street) starting at 7:00 p.m.

Clarksville-Montgomery County will join the millions of people watching across the country and around the world as Democratic Party Presidential nominee Barack Obama officially accepts the nomination. Along with the hundreds of Montgomery County supporters scheduled to attend this watch party, another 75,000 supporters will be packed into the INVESCO Field at Mile High, the 76,125-seat stadium that is home to the Denver Broncos football team, for a huge, free, open-air event where Barack Obama will deliver his acceptance speech to the American people. «Read the rest of this article»

Obama to accept nomination in public arena, opening convention event to voters

In an unprecedented move, Democratic candidate for President of the United States Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention next month will continue to open up the political process to the people in the same way he has opened it up throughout this campaign.

On Thursday, August 28th, he is scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates. Barack Obama on track for Democratic nod

Now that Barack Obama has won the democratic nomination what does this mean for the country? For Clarksville-Montgomery County? Well, our city is only the home of Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne division.

Have we forgotten that we are still at war in two foreign countries Iraq and Afghanistan? And that over 4,000 troops have died so far and over 21,000 injured in a war that has been proven to be over nothing more than oil, greed and power? While the rich get richer through billion dollar government contract deals in both of these countries the rest of us have to suffer through an economic crisis under yet another president Bush.

And in case you haven’t noticed but our local economy is suffering double jeopardy due to the deployment of over 3,000 troops from Fort Campbell to these countries, not to mention how it is affecting military family members — and the list goes on. «Read the rest of this article»
