Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds defeated the Fresno Grizzlies, 6-2, in front of a packed house of 9,025 fans on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium to gain a split of the four-game series.
With the victory, the Sounds (73-61) pulled back into a tie for the division lead with Memphis, which lost to Sacramento.
Donovan Hand (4-7) won his third consecutive outing for the Sounds by working his first quality start of the year. The right-hander held Fresno to two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out a career-high seven batters.

Clarksville, TN – One final non-conference tune-up awaits Austin Peay’s baseball team (6-8) as it hosts the Lipscomb Bison (9-8) in a 6:00pm, Tuesday contest just three days before it opens Ohio Valley Conference action.
The Govs and Bisons will renew their long-running series, with Tuesday’s affair the 127th meeting between the two teams all-time. Austin Peay leads the series by a slim 64-62-1 thanks to its current 10-game win streak in the series which dates back to the 2008 season.
Clarksville, TN - The Austin Peay Governors travel to Youngstown State for a Saturday night match-up with the Penguins of the Horizon League, at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown Ohio.
Youngstown was a member of the Ohio Valley Conference from the 1981-82 season, through 1987-88, and the Govs have a 7-8 record against them. Saturday’s game is a return contest of the Sears BracketBuster Series.
Knoxville, TN – Tennessee used a 21-0 run bridging the halves to run away with an 84-50 victory over Oakland on Sunday afternoon before 10,333 at Thompson-Boling Arena. The #3/4 Lady Vols (5-0) were led by sophomore Bashaara Graves (15 points and 11 rebounds) and senior Meighan Simmons (14 points).
Tennessee had five players score in double-figures as junior Ariel Massengale had 13 points along with six assists. Junior Isabelle Harrison tallied 11 points and freshman Mercedes Russell had 10 points.

Knoxville, TN - Tennessee is off to a 4-0 start after topping Georgia Tech, 87-76, on Sunday night. The #4/3 Lady Vols pounded the glass to the tune of 65 total rebounds including 33 offensive boards. Bashaara Graves had the best game of her career with highs of 23 points, 18 rebounds and five assists. It was Graves’ 13th career double-double.
Isabelle Harrison had 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for her seventh career double-double. It marked the second game that both Graves and Harrison each had double-doubles.
Knoxville, TN - After the Southeastern Conference Office unveiled this year’s league schedule on Tuesday, Tennessee Head Women’s Basketball Coach Holly Warlick announced her team’s 2013-14 slate. UT also revealed it will retire Candace Parker’s jersey on January 2nd prior to the LSU game.
The defending SEC champion Lady Volunteers, who were 27-8 in 2012-13 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, will play 18 regular-season games vs. teams that saw postseason action a year ago. That group includes 11 teams that made the NCAA Tournament and five that played in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

Clarksville, TN – If any team deserves to enjoy a winning streak it’s the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, who suffered through a nine-game losing streak before winning its last two against the Sun Belt’s Arkansas State in overtime last Monday and the SEC’s and in-state big brother Tennessee Vols last Saturday. The Govs have had a week to enjoy both victories and especially the one over the Vols.
It’s some what cliché, but in this case very true: Winning just makes everything better, food tastes better, the sky looks brighter and it’s easier to get out of bed.

As the Governors prepare to play Tennessee, 11:00am, Saturday, at Thompson-Boling Arena, they are expected to have back on a limited basis center John Fraley, who returned to physical activity in the past week after suffering a concussion a month ago in the season opener against Middle Tennessee.
