APSU Lady Govs Golf are ready for OVC Tournament

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will pursue its first Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship, Sunday-Tuesday, when it travels down the road to GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, TN to battle a 10-team field in the 54-hole league title event.

APSU Athlete of the Week Lauren de Castro

Clarksville, TN – Junior Lauren de Castro, of the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

de Castro opened the 2013 softball season with a complete-game shutout against East Tennessee State at Auburn’s Plainsman Invitational, Saturday. She scattered five hits and struck out two without allowing a walk, while going 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI.

Austin Peay State University’s Travis Betran named OVC Newcomer of the Week

Clarksville, TN – For the sixth time this season, Austin Peay State University junior guard Travis Betran has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

In two games last week the Betran recorded 20-point outings en route to averaging 25 points per game. He finished the weekend shooting 57 percent (16 of 28) from the floor, including 53 percent (8 of 15) from the three-point line.

Clarksville, TN – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will make its first trip to Clarksville when Austin Peay serves as host to the Cougars, 7:00pm, Thursday in Dave Aaron Arena.

The Govs played and won against the Cougars last year in Edwardsville in the respective programs’ first meeting. But this time the Cougars come to Clarksville as full-fledged Ohio Valley Conference members and West Division rivals.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran named APSU Athlete of the Week, January 15h, 2013

Clarksville, TN – Junior guard Travis Betran, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The junior from Harlem averaged 23.5 points in two outings last week, including the Govs first Ohio Valley Conference victory this season in an 84-81 overtime thriller against Morehead State, which Betran won for Austin Peay thanks to a game-winning fall-away three-pointer as time expired.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran earns OVC Newcomer of the Week Award for second straight week

Clarksville, TN – For the second consecutive week and the fifth time this season Austin Peay State University guard Travis Betran has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.

The junior from Harlem, NY, averaged 23.5 points/game in two outings last week in leading APSU to a split. In APSU’s first OVC win, 84-81, against Morehead State, Betran hit the game-winning fall-away three pointer at the overtime buzzer.
