Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran gets fourth OVC Newcomer of the Week honor

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University junior guard Travis Betran, who averaged 26 points per game in two Ohio Valley Conference contests last week, has been named the league’s Newcomer of the Week, in voting of conference sports information directors.
It is the fourth time this season Betran has earned the Newcomer honor.

Jonesboro, AR – After week off for finals its back to the business of basketball for Austin Peay State University. The Govs will hit the road to face Arkansas State, 2:00pm, Sunday December 14th in the ASU Convocation Center.
The Governors business begins and ends with taking care of the basketball. APSU committed 28 turnovers in its 83-65 loss to Memphis-it was the third time this season the Govs committed 20 or more turnovers.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran named APSU Athlete of the Week
APSU Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Junior guard Travis Betran, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Betran averaged 22.5 points on 59.3 percent shooting (16 of 27) last week, leading the Govs to a win against Oakland City before falling to Memphis. The Harlem native is now averaging 19.6 ppg over the last six games.

OVC honors Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran and Chris Horton
Brentwood, TN – For the first time in a decade the Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week honor has gone to the same person for four straight weeks.
That player is Austin Peay State University 6-8 center Chris Horton, who averaged 14.5 points while shooting 82 percent from the floor this week in helping the Governors gain a split.

Clarksville, TN – Travis Betran, who led Austin Peay State University‘s come-from-behind victory against Western Carolina last week, has been selected Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Meanwhile, freshman center Chris Horton, who had eight blocked shots in the final two games of the Triple Crown Cancun Challenge, has been named the OVC Freshman of the Week.
That was announced Monday by the OVC office.

Jake Ryan is APSU Athlete of the Week, November 13th, 2012

Clarksville, TN – Senior quarterback Jake Ryan, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Ryan re-wrote the Austin Peay record book, Saturday, against Jacksonville State. He was 40-of-61 passing – setting Austin Peay records for pass completions and attempts – for a career-high 375 yards and three touchdowns.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay will attempt to go 2-0 for the second time in three seasons as it travels to Bowling Green, KY, to face former Ohio Valley Conference rival Western Kentucky, 7:00pm, Tuesday, in E.A. Diddle Arena.
The Governors are coming off a 75-64 home win against Samford-only the fifth time in Dave Loos’ 23 seasons APSU opened the season at home.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran named OVC Newcomer of the Week
Clarksville, TN – Travis Betran, who scored 13 points and provided suffocating defense in his Austin Peay State University basketball debut, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
The Kilgore College transfer connected on a trio of three pointers in his debut and authored the night’s most impressive dunk in tallying his first double-digit scoring performance as APSU won its season opener, 75-64, against Samford.

Brentwood, TN – Junior forward Leslie Martinez, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, used a career-best effort to earn adidas Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors, the league office announced, Tuesday.
Martinez, of Copperas Cove, Texas, posted career highs in both points (20) and rebounding (14) en route to her season’s third double-double in Saturday’s 88-81 overtime victory against Morehead State. «Read the rest of this article»
Jerome Clyburn named Copies in a Flash Austin Peay Athlete of the Week

Clarksville, TN – Jerome Clyburn, a junior on the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
The Orange Park, FL, native, averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 assists, while making 8 of 11 from the floor and 16 of 18 from the free-throw line last week. Clyburn knocked down 12 of 14 free throws at Eastern Illinois, Saturday, and finished with a career-best 18 points.
