Clarksville, TN – Charles Hand, chairman and CEO of Hand Family Companies and long-time supporter of Austin Peay State University‘s athletics programs, was inducted into the Red Coat Society, Saturday night during halftime ceremonies of the APSU-Eastern Illinois basketball game.
In its 10th year, the Red Coat Society serves as a Hall of Fame of service for the Governors Club, APSU’s Athletics booster club.

The Red Coat Society, now in its 10th year, serves as a Hall of Fame of service for the Governors Club, APSU’s Athletics booster club. This year’s ceremony will take place during halftime of the Governors’ 7:30pm basketball game with Eastern Illinois.

Arrest made in Owensboro Kentucky Bank Robberies

Owensboro, KY – On December 30th, 2012, detectives with the Owensboro Police Department investigated a tip they received from the public.
That investigation allowed detectives to secure an arrest warrant for suspect, Weston Hurd, who lives in Henderson, Kentucky.
The warrant charged Hurd for the robbery of First Security Bank on December 28th, as well as the Kentucky Telco Bank on October 2nd. Both locations are in Owensboro.

Owensboro Kentucky Police Department requests assistance finding Bank Robbery suspect

Owensboro, KY – On December 28th, 2012, at approximately 4:15pm, the Owensboro Police Department responded to a robbery call at First Security Bank, 3560 Frederica Street.
The investigation has revealed that a white male entered the bank and demanded money. During the encounter, the suspect was observed with a small handgun. There were no injuries, and the suspect was able to leave with an undetermined amount of cash.

Clarksville, TN – Owensboro Kentucky officials are in the final stages for breaking ground on a new 169,000 square-foot, $48.4 million convention center, scheduled to open in 2013.
The Owensboro Downtown Convention Center Steering Committee and the Owensboro-Davies County Industrial Development Authority will meet Tuesday to consider final revisions to the design that’s scheduled to break ground April 1st. Owensboro, KY – Sophomore Xiamar Richards finished fifth and led Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan, Saturday, at Yellow Creek Park.
Richards posted her third straight top-10 finish, completing the five-kilometer course in 18:52.82. She was joined in the top 10 by sophomore Kendra Kirksey whose time of 19:06.82 was ninth in the 107-woman race.

Kosgei, Yator lead Govs to win at Kentucky Wesleyan

Owensboro, KY – Led by the tandem of junior Geofrey Kosgei and senior Boniface Yator, Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team won the Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan, Saturday, at Yellow Creek Park.
Kosgei and Yator finished third and fourth, respectively, and the Govs top four runners placed among the top 15. Kosgei completed the eight-kilometer course in 26:27.30 followed by Yator who finished in 26:40.55. Also finishing among the top 15 were junior Konnor Kessler (14th, 27:21.87) and sophomore Tyler Kepley (15th, 27:23.50).

Frankfort, KY – Junior Geofrey Kosgei posted his season’s first victory and Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team had all five runners post top-10 finishes for its season’s first victory, Friday, at the Thorobreds Stampede hosted by Kentucky State.
The Govs were without lead runner Boniface Yator but still pulled out a team victory at the Thorobread Classic. The Govs took home the event’s top three spots and five of the top-ten spots en route to the victory.

Frankfort, KY – Sophomore Xiamar Richards took home her season’s second victory and Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team swept the top five spots for its first victory, Friday, at the Thorobreds Stampede hosted by Kentucky State.
Prior to the race head coach Doug Molnar set a goal of winning the event and the Lady Govs came through big. Not only did they win the event, they had all eight runners finish 14th or better in the 38-runner event. Austin Peay had an average finishing time of 19:05.03. That time was 2:27 faster than host Kentucky State who took home team second-place.
