The Summer Youth Program 2008 ended with a bang on Friday, July 18th at Burt Cobb Community Center. Parents enjoyed a program that included karate and dance demonstrations and games and prizes. Appreciation awards were handed out to program sites from Summer Lunch Supervisor, Cathy Perrone. Over all attendance for the entire 6 week program was 20,206 youths.
The Parks After Dark Series will be featuring the admission free Movies in the Park on Saturday, July 26th at Heritage Park. The Kid’s Activities will begin at 6 p.m. with the movie starting at dusk around 8:30 p.m. The movie is about three children who move into Spiderwick Estates with their mother and are pulled into a world of faeries and other creatures. «Read the rest of this article»

The Clarksville Park Rangers will be hosting Park Watch meetings tonight at Ashton Park from 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and a combined meeting of Bel-Aire and Dalewood Parks will be at Bel-Aire Park starting at 7:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Summer Programs have two weeks left and the Crow Community Center has room for a few more for youths ages 6-16 years. The final date for Summer Program is July 17th. The “Family Night Out” for end of summer programs is scheduled for Friday, July 18th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Burt Cobb Community Center, where carnival games are just some of the activities featured. «Read the rest of this article»

This week nearly 100 of Clarksville’s senior athletes will compete in the 2008 Clarksville Senior Games. Competitions include: 3-on-3 basketball and volleyball, golf, bowling, track, swimming, shuffleboard, horseshoes, badminton, table tennis, and miniature golf. It’s not too late to pick up extra tickets to the Catfish Fry and Sock Hop on Friday night. Tickets can be purchased for $10.50 each at the registration tables Monday evening at Burt-Cobb Community Center starting at 5 p.m.
Several of Clarksville’s younger athletes competed in the Hershey Track and Field Local Meet last Saturday at Kenwood High School’s track and 17 of them will be advancing to the district level competition on June 7th at Dickson County High School. Results of the local meet are posted online in the Leaf Chronicle’s Get Published section.
If you live in one of the neighborhoods surrounding Valleybrook and Coy Lacy Parks or you just frequent the parks often and would like to meet with the City’s Park Rangers about park safety make plans to attend one of the Park Watch meetings May 18.
