The league set is scheduled to begin with a Friday doubleheader; first pitch for Game One is slated for noon.

APSU BaseballBowling Green, KY – Austin Peay State University’s baseball junior starting pitcher John Sparks set the tone with four scoreless innings and the Governors notched a 7-3 nonconference victory against Western Kentucky, Wednesday night at Nick Denes Field.

Austin Peay (17-18) supplied Sparks early run support, using three doubles and a single to plate two runs in the second inning.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – On Thursday, April 13th, Austin Peay’s baseball team will begin a five-game road trip when it visits Eastern Kentucky for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.

The Govs and Colonels will begin the series with a 6:00pm (CT), Thursday contest followed by a 5:00pm (CT), Friday matchup. A noon (CT), Saturday affair will conclude the series.

APSU Baseball holds off Belmont for 10-8 victory

APSU Baseball Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, April 9th, the Austin Peay State University’s baseball team fended off a mid-game rally to claim a 10-8 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Belmont at Raymond C. Hand Park. With the win, the Governors claimed the three-game OVC series, 2-1, for their second series victory this season.

Austin Peay (15-16, 7-8 OVC) raced out to a big lead using a combination of the long ball, small ball and a little help from the Belmont defense to build an 8-1 lead through four innings.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team closes its current five-game road trip when it heads northward again, this time to face Southern Illinois in a 5:00pm, Tuesday contest at Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois.

Tuesday’s contest is the second half of the 2017 home-and-home set between the teams. The Govs won the season’s first meeting, 10-3, February 22nd in Clarksville thanks to five home runs, including a pair by right fielder Chase Hamilton.

Track and Field’s Kaylnn Pitts named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior jumper Kaylnn Pitts, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Pitts took over the lead in the Ohio Valley Conference triple jump race with a 12.44m (40-9.75) mark at Ole Miss’ Joe Walker Invitational, earning runner-up in the 17-competitor field. She also earned fourth out of 31 in the long jump with a 5.72m (18-9.25) mark; both were season-bests for the Woonsocket, Rhode Island native.

The Govs and Redhawks enter the weekend tied for fifth place in the league standings with 4-5 records. Both teams lost their OVC set last weekend, APSU falling at home to Tennessee Tech while SEMO dropped a series at SIU Edwardsville.
