“Letter from 2012″ scrapes the bottom of the hate barrel

By David W. Shelton | October 28, 2008 | Print This Post

Focus on the Family Action sends out a letter from the viewpoint of 2012 — is it future history — or just more hateful rhetoric meant to strike fear in the conservative base?

With the new “Letter from 2012 in Obama’s America” that has been released by Focus on the Family Action, an activist wing of Dr. James Dobson’s rightwing organization, we’re reminded of just how hateful such groups are when faced with the prospect of losing an election. I’ve often said that this election is literally between hope and fear, and I’ve never been more convinced of that than I am right now. With just over a week to go, the “fear” camp is pulling out all the stops.

Since it was released to the public last Wednesday, the now-infamous letter has stroked the breast of fear like no other document in recent months. The letter’s writer is unidentified (after all, who’d want to actually put their name to such garbage?). It is nothing more than one “horrible” example of “liberal policies gone wrong” after another.

It shouldn’t be any surprise to anyone that the first three paragraphs of the actual “results” of an Obama presidency point to the very core of Reich-wing fear: national gay marriage and gay men serving as scoutmasters. The very possibility of these two things is so frightening that they must be the first to rattle the cage. First on the list of possible liberal-stacked supreme court rulings would be the legalization of gay marriage: «Read the rest of this article»

Senator Kurita launches Write-in campaign at new Madison Street headquarters

By Beth Robinson | October 5, 2008 | Print This Post

A large crowd of enthusiastic supporters gathered on October 2 for the grand opening of the new headquarters for Senator Kurita’s campaign to fight for her seat in Tennessee’s 22nd district.  Despite Kurita’s winning the primary, the Democratic Party reversed the voters decision and awarded the victory to her opponent, Atty. Tim Barnes.

Voters picked up yard signs and bumper stickers at new Write-in Kurita Montgomery County Headquarters

This unprecedented decision prompted Kurita to support her constituents by beginning a write-in campaign.  Are her supporters willing to go to the extra effort of typing in her name, K-U-R-I-T-A, on the voting machines in November? As with Senator Obama, the Democratic Presidential candidate, Senator Kurita welcomes votes from all Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who feel she will be the best candidate for the job. Her campaign slogan is “In America, we don’t steal elections.” «Read the rest of this article»

Who is Sarah Palin?

By James Butler | September 3, 2008 | Print This Post

Alaska Governor Sarah Heath Palin

Please forgive my blatant pun on the central question of a great American novel, but it seems everyone is asking this question. Senator John McCain surprised almost everyone universally in his choice of the Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate for the upcoming election. I have to admit that my first reaction mirrored that of many people, a resounding, “What, in the name of God, was he thinking or smoking?”

However, as I’ve done some research and learned more about the Honorable Governor, I’ve discovered that I rather like her. It is true that she’s only been the Governor of Alaska for roughly two years, but we should note that she was first elected to public office in 1992 as a city councilor. She became the major of her town in 1996, and then Chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (a very powerful position in a state such as Alaska), all before she became the Governor. This resume compares favorably with that of Senator Obama. She is three years his junior but has served in public office five years more than he has. «Read the rest of this article»

Democrats… Sell me!

By David W. Shelton | October 8, 2006 | Print This Post

david-mug-small.jpgWell, here it is another election season, and I’ve had my ear to the rail for a while; listening– hoping– praying– that the Democrats would begin to realize why they simply can not gain ground in Middle America.

Could it be, after all these years of Republican (Read: Bush) bashing and whining about global warming, that it could really be right under their nose? «Read the rest of this article»
