The weather was brisk, but the squad looked like they were excited to be on the field, as Cannon started laying the groundwork for what hopes to be a winning program.

Austin Peay Governors Football coach Christophel submits resignation to become NFL Cardinals assistant

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – It is now official. Rick Christophel, Austin Peay State University‘s football coach the last six seasons, has submitted his resignation in order to become the tight ends coach with the Arizona Cardinals.

“I am excited about starting a new chapter in my coaching career,” Christophel said. “I started thinking about this (coaching in the NFL), talking about this all the way back when I was in high school. What was I going to do with the rest of my life? If I couldn’t play I wanted to coach at the highest level possible.

“This has become a dream come true.”

Austin Peay Governors Football’s Reco Williams named to OVC All-Newcomer Squad

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay redshirt freshman tailback Reco Williams has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team, in a vote of OVC coaches and sports information directors.

Williams carried the ball 105 times for 501 yards – an average of 4.8 yards per carry – in nine games for the Governors in 2012. He also caught 17 passes – fourth-most by a Gov – for 147 yards. He also totaled three touchdowns on the season (two rushing, one receiving).

Austin Peay Governors Football’s defense holds back Tennessee Tech for 38-31 win

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – After racing out to an early 31-0 lead, Austin Peay’s football team survived a furious Tennessee Tech comeback to hang on for a 38-31 Ohio Valley Conference victory on Senior Day.

The victory gives Austin Peay (2-9, 1-7 OVC) its first Ohio Valley Conference win in 2012, as well as a victory in Sgt. York Trophy contests every season since the award’s inception in 2007. Tennessee Tech falls to 3-8 (1-7 OVC). Austin Peay’s 38-point outburst is the Govs largest scoring output in 46 meetings with the Golden Eagles.

Austin Peay Governors Football to play Tennessee Vols for first time in 2013

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – For the first time in school history, Austin Peay State University will play Tennessee in football during the 2013 season.

The Governors will travel to Knoxville, TN to play the Volunteers to kickoff the season, Saturday, August 31st.

“It was an opportunity that arose that we couldn’t turn down,” APSU head coach Rick Christophel said. “It will be exciting for our players and our fans. It also will help us in recruiting.
