Tennessee Titans say goodbye to kicker Rob Bironas

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans waived eight year veteran kicker Rob Bironas today. He has been with the Titans since June 21st, 2005.

Bironas is statistically one of the top 10 kickers in NFL history. He made 85.6 percent of his field goals in the first eight years of his career and became one of the top two scorers in club history.

“We want to thank Rob for his nine years of service to the Titans,” Titans GM Ruston Webster said. “He has been an outstanding kicker and we appreciate him both for his contributions on the field and in our community.” «Read the rest of this article»

Tennessee Titans end season with 16-10 win over Houston Texans at LP Field

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans (7-9) beat the Houston Texans (2-14) 16-10 Sunday at LP Field. Down by six with 1:06 remaining, Houston had the ball on their own 9 yard line. On the first play of the drive, Matt Schaub’s pass to wide receiver Keshawn Martin is intercepted by Titan’s safety Michael Griffin at the Houston 39 yard line sealing the win for Tennessee.

Houston started the game by taking their opening drive 63 yards for a touchdown. The drive was capped off by 3 yard touchdown run by Jonathan Grimes. It was Grimes’ first NFL touchdown of his career.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans (6-9) conclude their 2013 season this week, welcoming the AFC South rival Houston Texans (2-13) to LP Field (capacity 69,143). Kickoff is scheduled for noon CST on Sunday, December 29th.

In the first meeting this season, played on September 15th at Reliant Stadium, the Texans edged the Titans in overtime by a final score of 30-24. The Titans lead 14-9 in the overall series, which dates back to 2002.

The Jaguars are the Titans’ longest-standing division rival. In 38 all-time meetings, including playoffs, the Titans hold a 21-17 advantage.

Tennessee Titans lose thriller in OT 37-34 to Arizona Cardinals at LP Field

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Late in the fourth quarter, the Tennessee Titans (5-9) were down 34-17 to the Arizona Cardinals (9-5) when they scored 17 straight points in the final 3:12 to force overtime. The Titans tied the game when quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick connected with Michael Preston for an 8 yard touchdown pass with 0:14 second left to play.

In overtime, Tennessee won the toss. On the third play of the drive, Fitzpatrick’s pass to Preston was intercepted by Antoine  Cason at the Arizona 30 and run back 16 yards. The Cardinals used a heavy dose of runningback Rashard Mendenhall to move the ball to the Titans 23 yard line. From there, Jay Feely kicked a 41 yard field goal to give Arizona a 37-34 victory.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – This week the Tennessee Titans (5-8) play their first home game since November 14th, hosting the NFC Wild Card hopeful Arizona Cardinals (8-5). The kickoff at LP Field (capacity 69,143) was flexed from its original time and now is scheduled for 3:25pm CST on Sunday, December 15th.

This week’s game will be televised regionally on Fox, including Nashville affiliate WZTV Fox 17. Justin Kutcher will handle play-by-play duties while Charles Davis provides analysis and Kristina Pink reports from the sidelines.

Tennessee Titans mistakes costly in 22-14 loss to Indianapolis Colts

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans’ (5-7-0) defense held Indianapolis Colts’ (8-4-0) running back Donald Brown to only 8 yards rushing until midway through the 4th quarter.

With 8:08 left to play, the Colts were looking to chew up clock. A heavy dose of running ended with Brown scoring a 4 yard touchdown putting Indianapolis up 22-14. Brown had 46 yards on the drive.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans (5-6) play their second of three consecutive road games this week, traveling to Indianapolis to face the AFC South’s first-place Indianapolis Colts (7-4). Kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium (capacity 63,000) is scheduled for 1:00pm EST/noon CST on Sunday, December 1st.

This is the second Titans-Colts matchup in three weeks. On Thursday night, November 14th, the Titans hosted the Colts in a primetime game, only to fall by a final score of 30-27. They now look to break a streak of four consecutive losses to the Colts and earn their first win in Indianapolis since 2007.

The Titans have not played at Oakland since the 2004 season and have not won at O.co Coliseum since 2001. They have taken the two most recent battles in Tennessee (2007 and 2010), although the Raiders hold a 27-19 overall series lead, including playoffs.

The two clubs are separated in the AFC South standings by two games. They play twice in the next three weeks, with the rematch scheduled for Sunday, December 1st at Indianapolis.
