APSU Women's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay women’s tennis team will open its 2017 season Monday on the road at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

The Govs are coming off of a 2016 season that saw APSU make the OVC Tournament on the heels of Lidia Yanes Garcia‘s OVC Player of the Year season.

APSU Women's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Freshman Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team, received the highest honor at the annual Ohio Valley Conference banquet, Thursday, becoming the first women’s player in OVC history to be named Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season.

In addition, twin sister Claudia Yanes Garcia was named to the All-OVC first team.

APSU Men's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Freshman Almantas Ozelis, of the Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team, has earned All-Ohio Valley Conference second team accolades, the conference office announced Thursday night at the annual awards banquet.

Ozelis, of Marijampole, Lithuania, joined the Govs prior to the spring season, and has been a reliable No. 2 player ever since.

The third-ranked Governors (7-10, 6-3 OVC) enter the postseason field for the eighth consecutive season, and fourth under the tutelage of Ross Brown.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team received strong play from freshmen twins Claudia and Lidia Yanes Garcia, but it was not enough as the Govs fell at Lipscomb, 5-2, Friday.

Austin Peay (1-3) earned both its points in singles action, wins coming by the Yanes Garcia duo at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
