APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityBirmingham, AL – Austin Peay State University’s softball team ended its run of scoreless innings, Wednesday, but couldn’t come away with a victory, as they dropped 7-0 and 5-1 finals to Samford.

Carly Mattson‘s second home run of the season, with one out in the top of the fourth inning of the second game, ended a run of 33 1/3 innings without scoring a run for the Lady Govs (6-31) – the longest such streak since the 2000 season.

APSU Lady Govs Softball heads to Samford for final non-conference games

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityBirmingham, AL – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will step out of Ohio Valley Conference play for the final time in 2016, 3:00pm, Wednesday, when it travels to Samford University for a doubleheader.

The Governors (6-29) enter the twinbill having been held scoreless for the last 23 innings, including being swept in a three-game OVC series at Eastern Illinois this past weekend.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityCharleston, IL – Austin Peay State University’s softball team gave up a run in the first inning to Eastern Illinois, Sunday at Williams Field, and like the first two Ohio Valley Conference games in the series that proved to be all the Panthers would need with EIU shutting out the Lady Govs for a third straight game, this time in a 1-0 final.

Austin Peay State University Softball splits doubleheader with Tennessee State Tigers

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TNSavanna Oliver‘s pinch-hit, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning rallied the Austin Peay State University softball team past Tennessee State, Sunday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field, as the Govs won Game 2 of the Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader 8-6 after dropping the opener 7-4.

Austin Peay (6-25, 2-12 OVC) had seen Tennessee State tie the game 6-6 in the top of the inning on a two-run homer over the center field wall by Lindsey Burgess — her second home run of the game  –in the top of the seventh inning.

APSU Governors Golf head to Sevierville for Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

APSU Men's GolfSevierville, TN – Coming off its best performance this season, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team hopes to build off that momentum when it plays in the Fourth Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, being held, Sunday-Tuesday, at the Sevierville Golf Club River Course.

This is Austin Peay’s first time to play in the event named after the late Tennessee Tech golf coach and former pro golfer.

APSU Lady Govs Softball 2016 schedule includes Four Tournaments and 17 Home Games

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play in four in-season tournaments, while hosting 17 home games at Cheryl Holt Field, to highlight its 2016 schedule.

The Lady Govs open the season with four straight in-season tournaments, beginning at the Gardner-Webb Tournament (February 12th-14th), Western Kentucky Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic (February 19th-21st), Troy Trojan Warrior Tournament (February 26th-28th) and the 13th Annual Georgia Softball Classic (March 4th-6th).

APSU Athlete of the Week Chris Horton

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior center Chris Horton, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton averaged a double-double last week in two games, posting 14.5 points, 16.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in wins against Oakland City and Samford. He also shot 45.5 percent from the floor (10-for-22).

The Atlanta, GA native hit the boards hard last week, with a season-high 19 against Oakland City.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUCorpus Christi, TXDave Loos has a simply philosophy about basketball success on the road. “You have to take your defense, rebounding and free-throw shooting,” the longtime Austin Peay State University basketball coach says.

The Governors accomplished two of three Wednesday night in the American Bank Center against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi…but they failed miserably at the third.
