Clarksville, TN – This past week in New York City, Major League Baseball held its annual amateur draft with four Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players having their names called, bring the all-time total to 40 players selected in the draft from APSU since the first Gov was drafted in 1972.
Juniors Ridge Smith (catcher), Logan Gray (third base), Garrett Copeland (second base) and senior pitcher Jared Carkuff were chosen in the 12th, 13th, 30th and 35th rounds, respectively, marking the second time Austin Peay had has as many as four players drafted at one time – and trailing only the 2013 MLB draft were the Govs had five players picked.

Clarksville, TN – As baseball fans shift their attention to Cincinnati for the 2015 All-Star Game, it’s an appropriate time to look across the country at former Austin Peay State University players competing in the pros.
Currently, there are two Govs playing in the big leagues, seven in minor league systems, and one signed to the Frontier League.
APSU, Clarksville Chamber and Montgomery County Hosting Veterans and Homecoming Celebrations this November
Clarksville, TN – This November, Austin Peay State University will partner with Montgomery County and the Clarksville-Area Chamber of Commerce to honor the veterans and military-affiliated individuals who live, study and work in this community.
The University is tailoring its 2014 Homecoming Celebration that month to include the military theme “Gov Strong,” creating a week long community and university celebration for local veterans. Both entities will host several events during the first week of November, culminating in a joint Homecoming/Veterans Day Parade through downtown Clarksville and campus at 10:00am on November 8th.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University President Tim Hall and local businessman Jack B. Turner will be inducted into the Red Coat Society, in between games of the Lady Govs-Governors 5:15pm, Saturday doubleheader with Eastern Kentucky.
The Red Coat Society, now in its 11th year, serves as a Hall of Fame of service for the Governors Club, APSU’s Athletics booster club.

Clarksville, TN – A day after Gary McClure became the first Ohio Valley Conference baseball coach in history to record 800 career victories, Austin Peay State University has announced it has signed its longtime coach to a four-year extension through the 2017-18 season.
McClure, who has led Austin Peay baseball to three straight NCAA tournaments and six overall, became only the 28th active coach with 800 career victories, Sunday, when the Governors defeated Iowa, 7-4.

Clarksville, TN – When most former Austin Peay State University athletes earn entrance into the APSU Athletics Department Hall of Fame they are done with their careers, or at the least near the end of them.
But that isn’t the case for one of this year’s inductees in former Govs pitching standout Shawn Kelley, who is just days away from reporting to spring training in Tampa, FL, which begins his sixth season in Major League Baseball and second with the New York Yankees.

Clarksville, TN – Two of the greatest Governors athletes in their respective sports and the department’s longtime sports information director were inducted into Austin Peay State University’s Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday.
In addition, a former superb football/basketball player who paid the ultimate price in defense of his country, was selected to the Hall of Fame as part of it Legends category.
