APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – After playing nine of its last 12 on the road, Austin Peay’s baseball team returns to Raymond C. Hand Park to kick off a four-game homestand with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Morehead State.

The league set is scheduled to begin with a Friday doubleheader; first pitch for Game One is slated for noon.

Instant Peay Play: Several factors have led to recent struggles for APSU Baseball

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team has hit a lull over the past three weeks, after a solid start to the season, and while there is still a lot of baseball yet to be played for the Governors, some trends need to turn around if they look to get a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference postseason field.

The Govs (12-15, 5-7 OVC) currently sit in the eighth spot in the conference standings, a game ahead of ninth-place SIU Edwardsville and a game-and-a-half ahead of 10th-place Eastern Illinois, with the top eight teams making the OVC postseason tournament field.

APSU Baseball travels to Southeast Missouri in pivotal OVC Matchup

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A season-long five game road trip will see Austin Peay’s baseball team face Southeast Missouri in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series, Friday-Sunday, at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

The Govs and Redhawks enter the weekend tied for fifth place in the league standings with 4-5 records. Both teams lost their OVC set last weekend, APSU falling at home to Tennessee Tech while SEMO dropped a series at SIU Edwardsville.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Women’s Tennis team faces big showdowns this week

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s women’s tennis team made a return to the Ohio Valley Conference postseason in 2016, after a two-year hiatus, but with the start of Ohio Valley Conference play in 2017 the Govs have come out of the gates quickly, but face some tough opponents this week as they try to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Govs enter the week with an overall record of 5-5, but more importantly a 3-0 mark in OVC play – one of three teams yet to drop a match in conference play this year – having opened OVC play with victories over Tennessee State (5-2) and Belmont (4-3) on the road and Jacksonville State (6-1) at home this past Saturday.

APSU’s Tearra Banks named 2016-17 OVC Player of the Year

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN –  Tearra Banks challenged herself in the offseason entering her final season at Austin Peay State University, gaining motivation to get in shape and become a full-time impact player. She logged countless hours conditioning, knowing this would be her year to develop into a leader and role model.

The transformation from then to now is evident. Banks has been nearly unstoppable throughout this season, averaging 19.3 points and eight rebounds per game, while ranking among the NCAA Division I elite in field goal percentage (60.5 percent) and field goals made (231).

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – On Tuesday, Austin Peay State University Basketball senior guard John Murry earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades after averaging 28.5 points with eight 3-pointers in a pair of victories for the Governors last week.

In his last two appearances at the Dunn Center, Murry led the Govs to a pair of crucial victories to remain in the hunt for a postseason berth.
