APSU Softball blanks UT Martin Skyhawks at OVC Tournament

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) softball team made a triumphant return to the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament, Wednesday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL, downing UT Martin, 2-0.

The APSU Governors (37-15), the tournament’s second-seed, scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning.

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team makes a return to the postseason for the first time in 11 years, 12:30pm, Wednesday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL., when it takes on UT Martin in its opening-round matchup.

The Govs (36-15, 17-4 OVC) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed, their highest seed in the program’s history, while Tennessee Martin (25-30, 9-11 OVC) enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed.

APSU Baseball beats UT Martin 10-4 at Raymond C. Hand Park, Sunday

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University starting pitcher Brandon Vial opened with six scoreless innings and APSU’s baseball team provided plenty of early run support as it secured an Ohio Valley Conference series with a 10-4 victory against UT Martin, Sunday at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Needing a Sunday win to secure the series the Governors turned to Vial who opened the game by retiring the first 10 batters he faced. He would allow a one out single in the fourth but would not allow a run through six innings.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – On a day Austin Peay State University’s baseball team honored one of its alumni, starter Jacques Pucheu struck out a nine batters and the offense supplied three home runs in an 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference victory against UT Martin, Saturday at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Prior to the game, Austin Peay (24-19, 14-9 OVC) recognized alumnus Stephen Huff, who threw the ceremonial first pitch to help raise awareness for lung cancer.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Starting pitcher Michael Costanzo struck out nine batters and first baseman Parker Phillips hit a pair of home runs but Austin Peay State University’s baseball team dropped an 8-6 Ohio Valley Conference decision to UT Martin, Friday night at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Costanzo battled through a rough first inning that saw him strike out the side but not before surrendering four runs, three coming on a home run.

A 6:00pm, Friday first pitch will start the three-game set with Coca-Cola sponsoring the game and Fuse Fireworks presenting a fireworks show following the contest.

Austin Peay Athletics announces promotions for APSU Baseball series against UT Martin

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – With the start of finals week at Austin Peay State University, the athletics department’s promotions at this weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference series against UT Martin provide some last minute fun for students and fans alike.

Temperatures are forecast to be near 70 degrees all three days of this weekend’s series, the next to last weekend series at Raymond C. Hand Park this season.

APSU Women’s Tennis hands UT Martin 4-1 loss to advance to OVC Tournament Semifinals

APSU Women's TennisNashville, TN –  Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team easily handled UT Martin in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, 4-1, Friday, at the Centennial Sportsplex.

The Skyhawks (4-14, 4-5 OVC) came out strong, winning at No. 1 doubles. The team of Helena Kuppig and Ana Albertson responded, coming from behind to win at No. 2 doubles, but the Skyhawks won at No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles.

APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team begins its quest for an Ohio Valley Conference title, as they take on UT Martin, 2:00pm, Friday, at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, TN.

The match will follow the men’s match and while it is expected to start around 2:00pm, it could start earlier depending on when the men finish, but not before 1:00pm.

Instant Peay Play: Spring OVC championships begin this week for APSU

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Ohio Valley Conference championship tournament play begins this week for Austin Peay State University’s women’s golf team and both men’s and women’s tennis teams, as they look to join the Governors volleyball team in winning a conference title in the 2017-18 school year.

The women’s golf team will open play April 15th at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, AL, while the tennis teams will play on April 20th at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center in Nashville, TN.
