Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay begins a three-game homestand – its longest this season – when it hosts Murray State in a 3:00pm, Saturday contest at the Dunn Center. The Lady Govs opened the 2012 portion of their schedule with a 66-63 victory at Eastern Kentucky, Monday, to conclude an OVC-opening, three-game road trip.

Austin Peay returns to the Dunn Center seeking to restore its home court advantage after posting a 1-4 mark at home during the 2011 portion of its schedule. Murray State will be concluding its own OVC opening three-game road trip with Saturday’s visit to the Dunn Center. The Racers dropped a 76-51 decision at Eastern Illinois, Monday, and fell to 1-9 on the road this season.

Campbell’s Interception Return Sparks Titans

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Tommie Campbell had the view that defensive backs have in their dreams.

The Titans rookie safety saw a wobbling pass and 90 yards of lush, open LP Field grass.

Seconds later, the seventh round draft pick and former airport janitor, brought thousands to their feet by taking the interception for a touchdown. Campbell had enough gas in his tank to punctuate the return by putting one hand on his helmet in a tribute to Deion Sanders before high-fiving fans in the front row.

“I guess the quarterback and receiver weren’t on the same page,” Campbell said. “I saw the ball, broke on the ball and caught the ball first because I have had trouble with that at practice. Record-setting win for Lady Govs soccer at Alabama A&M

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman Claire Pultz had a record-setting four goals as Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team rewrote the record books with a 14-0 season-opening win at Alabama A&M, Friday.

“I’m pleased with the result and glad that we came out healthy,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “I feel like we learned something from it and that’s important to us.”

Murdoch’s two goals lift Lady Govs soccer to exhibition win

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior Jocelyn Murdoch scored twice as Austin Peay State University took a neat 5-0 exhibition win against Freed-Hardeman, Friday night, at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

With nearly two weeks of practice behind them, it was no surprise that head coach Kelley Guth’s team was anxious to get on the field against a team wearing different jerseys. It took only three minutes for the Lady Govs to get on the board when Ole Miss transfer Morgan Zigelsky scored on a combination play in the middle of the field.

Initial Lady Govs soccer exhibition set for Friday

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – After nearly two weeks of preseason training, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team will undergo its first test in a 7:00pm, Friday, exhibition contest against Freed-Hardeman at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

It is the first of two weekend exhibition contests for the Lady Govs. They also play host to St. Louis in a 2:00pm, Sunday exhibition match.

2011 Lady Govs Soccer Schedule features 11 road matches

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team will be considered road warriors in undertaking the challenging 2011 schedule, head coach Kelley Guth announced, Tuesday.

A year after earning the program’s second postseason appearance and playing into the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship game, the Lady Govs schedule features nine home matches (including two preseason exhibitions) and 11 road matches. With the addition of SIU Edwardsville as a conference match, Austin Peay will play four home OVC matches against five on the road.

Lady Govs tennis host WKU and SIU-E

 

APSU Women’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team returns home for a weekend set, beginning with a 2:00pm, Friday match with Western Kentucky, followed by a 2:00pm. Saturday match against SIU Edwardsville. All matches will be played at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center and admission is free.

The Lady Govs (1-1) are playing their first match since falling at Xavier, 5-2, Saturday, as sophomore Carolin Weikard saw her 14-match win streak halted. Junior Vanja Tomic, meanwhile, went to three sets at No. 1 singles against Xavier, but sandwiched a 6-0 second-set loss with a pair of 6-3 set wins to take the match.

Weekend matches set for Tennis Govs

 

APSU Men’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team hosts a pair of weekend matches, beginning with a 6:00pm, Friday match against Western Kentucky, followed by a 6:00pm, Saturday match against SIU Edwardsville. All matches will be played at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center and admission is free.

The Govs (3-2) will be looking for improved play at the bottom of the lineup in order to maintain the momentum being generated from their strong doubles play. Through five matches, the Govs have been perfect in winning the doubles point, having lost only three of 15 doubles matches thus far.

Edmondson and Terry named OVC co-Newcomers of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Juniors Tyshwan Edmondson and Josh Terry, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team were named the Ohio Valley Conference co-Newcomers of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The pair of junior-college transfers led the Govs in a 64-61 win at St. Louis, Friday, in non-conference action. A guarantee game for the Govs, Edmondson and Terry thrived defensively in the second half helping the Govs overcome an eight-point deficit. With 4.2 seconds left, Edmondson buried a pair of clutch free throws to seal the road victory against a team picked to finish sixth in the 14-team Atlantic-10 field.

Governors head back on the road to face Chattanooga

Austin Peay State University GovernorsChattanooga, TN – With an impressive win at St. Louis put behind it, Austin Peay State University’s basketball team will move onto stop No. 2 on the Govs’ nine-game season-opening road tour when they face Chattanooga in a 6:00pm, Monday game in McKenzie Arena.

Despite the relatively short distance between the two Tennessee universities, this is the first time the two teams have met since the 2005-06 season–this also only the 17th overall meeting between the schools. It also is only the sixth time in Dave Loos’ 21 seasons as head coach the Governors and Mocs have hooked up. In fact, they will play again in Clarksville in early January.
