Many supporters of TN Amendment 1 will tell you that it upholds the “traditional marriage.” In fact, it allows for a non-traditional marriage in one set of circumstances. Up until 1967, couples of different races were not allowed to marry in sixteen different states (that’s 32% of the country). So at that time, that would have been considered a non-traditional marriage.
Continuing with this logic, if we don’t want homosexuals to upset traditional marriage, shouldn’t we also prevent couples of different races from marrying too? That’s not very traditional, when you consider that from 1776 until then, it wasn’t legal for those couples to marry. Personally, I would consider 191 years more of a tradition than 39 years. So, why is there not an initiative to protect the “sanctity of marriage” from the harms that interracial marriage can do to it? The answer is that to not allow those couples to marry is simply discrimination. «Read the rest of this article»

In 2002 a new voting district was born, one that encompassed parts of Montgomery and Williamson Counties, but most of Cheatham County. This, ignored and least talked about district, even among its constituents, is the Tennessee House of Representative seat for District 78.
How did this district begin being taken for granted you ask, and why isn’t a lot of talk circulating about this district? Many point to the fact that the 8,050 registered Montgomery County voters that make up part of District 78 are being over looked due to the fact that the majority of the 78th District voters, over 30,000 of them, rest in Cheatham and Williamson Counties.

I wanted to let you know that I am running for the office of United States Senator, Tennessee under the banner of the Green Party of Tennessee. I believe that it is time for a candidate to stand up for peace and against war. I intend to be an advocate for the message of peace and for the people of Tennessee. I believe that we cannot change the way things are done until ordinary people stand up and speak truth to politics. I intend to run as a progressive candidate who will not compromise on my values. I stand for the values of ordinary working people and against the interests of corporations and those who seek to subvert the public trust. «Read the rest of this article»

Here’s an interview with Harold Ford, Jr. which appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball on August 21st.
I was unable to find one for Bob Corker, so if anyone knows of one online let me know! I try to be non-partisan in my election coverage. If you are a local Republican Party supporter, or candidate, and are interested in contributing as an author, we would welcome your contributions to the site as well. Balance is important. «Read the rest of this article»

I was recently looking at the fast-growing list of candidates for the City Mayor of Clarksville for this year’s election. One of the names surprised me because of a letter to the editor that the same person wrote last year.
The letter in question was written in response to an advance article from The Leaf-Chronicle which told its readers of a Gay Pride festival which was celebrated on May 21st, 2005 (the first in Clarksville). This letter sparked a firestorm of more than two dozen letters that summer, most of which were overwhelmingly positive and in support of the event.
