Queen City Road Race Art Contest winners announced

 

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville TN – The city of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has announced the winners of the 2013 Queen City Road Race Art Contest.  Two finalists were selected from each of the participating elementary schools.

The  overall winning artwork is featured on the official race T-shirt and event poster.  Along with that honor, the overall winner has been awarded $100 for their art class.  The top three semi-finalists each won a Subway party for their class.  Each finalist received a certificate and an art kit which were presented at their schools.

On Saturday, October 6th, more than 10,000 people will take to the streets for the American Heart Association’s Nashville Heart Walk, one of the largest in the nation, starting at Vanderbilt University downtown. APSU President Tim Hall Reflects On Life And Austin Peay’s Future

Clarksville, TNAustin Peay State University President Timothy L. Hall has been with the university since August 2007, and the school has grown by 20% since he arrived. In fact, APSU has become the fastest growing university in Tennessee since the year 2000.

Hall says he’d never set foot in Clarksville before taking the job, but had read great things about the area and was eager to get involved. “Clarksville is the furthest north that my wife and I have ever been,” he said.

Before succeeding Dr. Sherry Hoppe as APSU president, Hall had accomplished other tasks in his life. Born on October 28th, 1955, Hall grew up in Texas City, Texas. After graduating from Texas City High School, he attended The University of Houston where he majored in Philosophy. Forward Operating Base Deh Dadi II, Afghanistan – From what he’s been told, 1st Lt. Robert Schnabel said Forward Operating Base Deh Dadi II is a great place to be.

“I don’t get a chance to get off the FOB much, but I’ve been told it’s well laid out,” the FOB DDII mayor said.

Since their arrival in theater back in March, Schnabel and the soldiers of the 530th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, have been improving their foxhole steadily as they continue to expand the living condition at FOB Deh Dadi II.

101st Sustainment Brigade - LifelinersFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionBalkh Province, Afghanistan – A little over a year ago, Forward Operating Base Dehdadi II was beginning to come to life: the walls were constructed, the tents rose, and the soldiers moved in.

Now that the groundwork is laid, more amenities are reaching the service members assigned to FOB Dehdadi II. Over the next few weeks, Army and Air Force Exchange Services will arrive and open up at the base.

Army and Air Force Exchange Service in slated to open a post exchange and food court on Forward Operating Base Dehdadi II. The first of the stores, a Green Beans Coffee and Subway, are scheduled to open for the Fourth of July, and the post exchange will open the following month. (Sgt. 1st Class Peter Mayes)
