Tennessee State Parks Hosting Free National Trails Day Guided Hikes

 

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN - In conjunction with National Trails Day, Tennessee State Parks will host free, guided hikes on Saturday, June 1st, encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to participate in several planned activities across the state.

Each state park will host its own special hike, offering a variety of family-friendly activities including historical hikes, educational programming, re-enactments and wildlife watching.

This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public.  Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Fall Creek Falls State Park Offers Basket Weaving Workshop February 8th-9th

Tennessee State ParksPikeville, TN – Fall Creek Falls State Park is offering its annual basket-making workshop February 8th-9th, 2013, for participants interested in learning a new craft or refining existing basket-weaving skills.

Participants will learn the basics of basket weaving, with the opportunity to weave a small, wooden-bottom fruit basket on Friday evening and a larger wooden-bottom basket tote on Saturday morning.  With more than 25 years of experience, Jim and Nancy Phillips will serve as class instructors. Tennessee State Natural Areas Program Offers Two Mid-Winter Hikes in Middle Tennessee on January 26th

 

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Division of Natural Areas will host two guided day hikes at Middle Tennessee natural areas on Saturday, January 26th, including excursions to Short Springs State Natural Area in Coffee County and Virgin Falls State Natural Area in White County.

New External-Facing GIS Application Offers Unique Mapping Components and Interactive Design

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation announced today the launch of its new Geographic Information System (GIS)-based site that provides up-to-date interactive maps and information about recreational opportunities at Tennessee State Parks and natural areas.
