OVC Preseason Poll ranks APSU Men’s Cross Country ninth, Women’s tenth

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – The Ohio Valley Conference released its 2016 men’s and women’s cross country predicted order of finish, Wednesday, voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Austin Peay State University men’s team was ranked tied for ninth in the poll, while the women were predicted to finish 10th. Last season, the men’s and women’s teams each had three top three finishes, including wins in the annual Austin Peay Cross Country Festival.

On the men’s side, the Govs will be led by three seniors with ample experience – Daniel Hamm, Kyle Harmon and Martin Rejman.

APSU Women's Basketball Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball 2016-17 schedule , released Monday by second year head coach David Midlick highlighted by fifteen home games.

The home slate will be the Governors largest since the 1983-84 campaign – one of three seasons which featured a program-record 16 contests at the Dunn Center. In addition, Austin Peay will host seven meetings against nonconference opponents, the most since 1985-86.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball announces Non-Conference Schedule

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Notre Dame, Baylor, Texas and Stanford headline a stout non-conference Tennessee women’s basketball schedule that was released on Monday by fifth-year Lady Vol Head Coach Holly Warlick (108-34, .761).

Tip times and television network assignments will be available at a later date when that information is approved for release.

UT, which returns four starters from a team that finished 22-14 and rallied for the program’s fourth NCAA Elite Eight appearance in five seasons, is ranked No. 11 in Charlie Creme’s ESPN.com “Way-Too-Early Preseason top 25”. The Lady Vols welcome back their top scorer in redshirt junior guard Diamond DeShields (14.3 ppg.) and top rebounder in redshirt junior center Mercedes Russell (8.3 rpg.).

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – To no one’s surprise, Austin Peay State University’s football team was picked to finish last the official Ohio Valley Conference poll – as well as the media poll – at last week’s OVC Football Media Day, but a closer look inside some key numbers shows the 2016 season outlook may not be as bleak as predicted.

First, the Governors return 56 letter winners from 2015, which is the third most among conference teams, and over 10 more than five OVC opponents – including the prohibitive favorite to win the conference, Jacksonville State.

APSU Football - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University football was picked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference by a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors announced Monday at the annual OVC Media Day.

Defending champion Jacksonville State was the top preseason choice for a third straight year, picking up 16 of 18 first-place votes and 128 points total.

Tennessee State Museum opens new exhibit “Celebrating a Life in Tennessee Art: Lloyd Branson, 1853 – 1925” July 1st

 

Tennessee State MuseumNashville, TN – The first major retrospective of Tennessee artist Lloyd Branson’s life, works of art, and legacy will open at the Tennessee State Museum on July 1st. The exhibition entitled, Celebrating a Life in Tennessee Art: Lloyd Branson, 1853 – 1925, was organized by the East Tennessee Historical Society and features more than 60 of Branson’s paintings which tell the remarkable story of the ambitions and achievements of the artist and his region.

There is no admission charge to the exhibit which will be on view in the museum’s Changing Galleries.

An Austin Peay State University track and field team that battled injury, illness and inconsistency throughout the 2016 season and entered the weekend under the radar righted the ship at the perfect moment, securing a third-place team finish at the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships.

It’s the third straight season that Austin Peay has finished in the top-three at the OVC Outdoor Championships.
