Clarksville, TN – Gary McClure, Austin Peay State University‘s all-time winningest baseball coach who has taken his Governors to five NCAA Regionals, and Dr. W. Cooper Beazley, whose dedication to APSU athletics and its athletes extends well beyond financial contributions and services, were inducted into to the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday.
In addition, Andrew Lorentzson, who starred in basketball for Austin Peay in the mid-1930s when it was a junior college, also was inducted through the University’s new Honors category, reserved for those former athletes who competed at least 50 years ago. Loren McCamey Schanding, granddaughter of the late Lorentzson, who died in 1971, accepted the award for the family.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball to host Trevecca in home opener

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Softball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will open it home schedule, 2:00pm, Wednesday, when it welcomes Trevecca to Cheryl Holt Field for a doubleheader.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 1995 season, with Austin Peay holding a 4-0 all-time advantage in the series.

Edmondson’s 29 not enough as turnovers undo Governors at Fairfield

Bridgeport, CT – Fairfield took advantage of 25 Austin Peay State University turnovers, Saturday afternoon, as it pulled away for a 76-69 victory in Sears BracketBuster action played at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard.
Fairfield, which already has clinched the 2010-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship, turned the uncharacteristic Govs miscues into 35 points, more than enough to pull out its 22nd victory against five defeats. Austin Peay, meanwhile, saw its modest two-game winning streak snapped at two games as it fell to 17-12 overall before heading back into Ohio Valley Conference play, 7:30pm, Thursday, at home against Eastern Illinois.
