DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—For Austin Peay men’s basketball team, the competition will improve as much as the weather when it travels for three games, on-site, at the Glenn Wilkes Classic, played at the Ocean Center. The Govs opened the classic with a 80-77 upset of Akron, which was ranked No. 6 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major preseason poll.

Govs head coach Dave Loos fields a young team, led by preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection senior Wesley Channels, who had a game-high 17 points and six assists at Akron. The young Govs have featured a balanced scoring attack through their first two games. Sophomore Anthony Campbell leads the way averaging 15.5 ppg., followed by Channels at 15 ppg. and sophomore point guard Tyrone Caldwell at 12.5 ppg. Youth will be served for Austin Peay in a starting lineup that likely will feature Channels as the only upperclassmen.
Now the Govs turn their attention to a challenging three-game slate that begins with IUPUI, Friday, followed by ACC power North Carolina State, Saturday, before a Sunday game against Niagra. «Read the rest of this article»
