Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – A day after Gary McClure became the first Ohio Valley Conference baseball coach in history to record 800 career victories, Austin Peay State University has announced it has signed its longtime coach to a four-year extension through the 2017-18 season.

McClure, who has led Austin Peay baseball to three straight NCAA tournaments and six overall, became only the 28th active coach with 800 career victories, Sunday, when the Governors defeated Iowa, 7-4.

APSU Baseball Players Finish Minor League Campaigns

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN - The 2013 Minor League Baseball campaign has come to a close and Austin Peay State University’s baseball team saw 14 former student-athletes playing professional baseball.

The Govs continue to have three players active in Major League Baseball: Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis, New York Yankees relief pitcher Shawn Kelley and Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Matt Reynolds. Each of the three has a month left in their seasons and, in the case of A.J. Ellis and Shawn Kelley, possibly more with October postseason runs.

APSU Governors Baseball concludes Signing Period, Add Six in Spring

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team completed its 2014 recruiting class, adding an infielder and five pitchers in the spring signing period.

Joining the Govs in the spring signing period were right-handed pitcher Caleb DeLee, of Collierville, TN; infielder Alex Robles, of Tucson, AZ; right-handed pitcher Jake Corum, of Blaine, TN; right-handed pitcher Mark Hendrick, of Albuquerque, NM; and right-handed pitcher Shane Lantigua, of Bartlett, TN.

APSU Baseball now has 14 Governors Playing Professional Baseball

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN - With its record draft class reporting to summer leagues, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team now claims a record 14 former student-athletes playing professional baseball.

The Governors saw a record five players selected in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player draft in June. Each of the five signed a professional contract and reported to leagues across the country.

APSU Baseball trio earn Rawlings Post-Season Honors

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUOmaha, NE – Postseason accolades continue to flow in as Austin Peay State University closer Tyler Rogers was named a Rawlings Second-Team All-America pick by the American Baseball Coaches Association, Thursday.

In addition, infielders Jordan Hankins and Craig Massoni received Second-Team All-South Region honors.

Austin Peay State University has Four Governors taken on final day of 2013 Major League Baseball Draft

APSU Baseball’s Tyler Rogers Finalist for National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Award

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Five of college baseball’s top relief specialists have been selected as finalists for the ninth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the NCBWA announced Wednesday.

This year’s finalists include NCAA saves leader Tyler Rogers of Austin Peay along with David Berg of UCLA, Jonathan Holder of Mississippi State, Michael Lorenzen of Cal State Fullerton, and Jimmie Sherfy of Oregon.
