Clarksville, TN – The Soto Cano Air Base sits at the bottom of the Comayagua Valley in the Central American nation of Honduras. It’s home to about 500 U.S. Army soldiers, and this past January, a handful of them gathered inside a small wood hut with a sheet metal roof.
The building served as a classroom for the first “on-the-ground” college courses offered at the remote base, and Dr. Sheena Harris, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of history, traveled all the way from Clarksville to teach the new classes.

Fort Campbell’s 1st Brigade Combat Team becomes first Army Unit to fire the XM1156 Precision Guidance Kit fuse in Combat

Jalalabad Airfield, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Soldiers from Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division have been training diligently with a new artillery fuse at Forward Operating Base Joyce, Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
The XM1156 Precision Guidance Kit fuse is a fuse with GPS capabilities that increases the accuracy of conventional High Explosive and Rocket-Assisted Projectile artillery rounds, according to U.S. Army 1st Lt. Anthony Jones, the platoon leader for 1st Platoon, Btry. A., and native to Ellsworth, Maine.

Fort Campbell’s 1st Brigade Combat Team Soldiers get visit from U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel

Forward Operating Base Fenty, Afghanistan – Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Chuck Hagel, visited the U.S. Army Soldiers of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, March 9th.
Hagel and his team landed at Forward Operating Base Fenty in a U.S. Air Force C-130 and were given a briefing by the command team of 1st BCT about the status of operations in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces in Afghanistan.
After the briefing, Hagel made his way to the entrance of the FOB where he addressed Combined Team Bastogne Soldiers.

 Paktika Province, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Soldiers from Task Force Currahee observed Afghan National Army soldiers from 4th Kandak, 2nd Brigade, 203rd Corps, as they provided indirect fire support Afghan ground forces June 12th-16th in Afghanistan’s Paktika Province.
The Afghan-led mission was the culmination of eight months of training led by Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, Task Force Glory, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, TF Currahee.
