Instant Peay Play: Long-time APSU Coach, Administrator Cheryl Holt set to retire

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – This coming Friday, June 30th, will see the career of long-time Austin Peay State University coach and administrator Cheryl Holt come full circle, as she is set to retire after 35-plus years of service to the university.

Holt, who first came to Austin Peay to earn her master’s degree in the early 1970’s after graduating from The Ohio State University, returned to the school in 1982 to become the head volleyball and tennis coach after serving at both the University of Mississippi and the University of Miami as volleyball coach.

Austin Peay State University’s Phi Alpha Theta wins eighth Best Chapter Award

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – While much of America focused on each word said during the recent first presidential debate, something else was gnawing at the back of the mind of Austin Peay State University professor of history, Dr. Minoa Uffelman.

For the last seven years, the University’s Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society (PAT), which Uffelman advises, has been recognized each fall with the national Best Chapter Award, but September was drawing to a close without word on a possible eighth consecutive award.

Award-winning poet Aimee Nezhukumatathil to give reading at APSU on September 15th

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Award-winning author Aimee Nezhukumatathil will be on the campus of Austin Peay State University for a reading of her work on September 15th at 8:00pm in the Morgan University Center, Room 303.

The event, sponsored by Zone 3 Press and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is free and open to the public.

Austin Peay State University opens new exhibit that provides social commentary on southern landscape and lifestyle

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Trahern Gallery, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art and Design, is pleased to present “Southlandia”, a body of work by nationally recognized printmaker Andrew Blanchard.

The exhibit opens February 22nd at the gallery and runs through March 18th.

APSU’s student newspaper The All State takes home state, AP awards

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s student newspaper, The All State, was recently honored for its excellence on both the regional and state levels.

The All State earned a No. 4 in the South ranking on February 27th at the annual Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC), held February 27th-28th at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Instant Peay Play: APSU slow starts not the end with Ohio Valley Conference play right around the corner

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – There haven’t been a lot of wins so far this fall for Austin Peay teams, but with Ohio Valley Conference contests right around the corner, don’t count out the Governors or Lady Govs just yet.

Overall win-loss records are important, without a question, but it’s the OVC games that mean more than the pre-season with berths into the postseason keyed on those contests.

Austin Peay State University is joined by 26 tenure-track faculty

Dr. Kadi Bliss, assistant professor of health and human performance, earned her Ph.D. in health education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Instant Peay Play: Several new faces will help greet APSU Student Athletes, Fans as school year begins

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – With Austin Peay football players reporting this weekend, the 2014-15 athletic school year has officially begun, and with it there will be several new and old faces on the sidelines, courts and dugouts as they go there their seasons, as well as several coaching slots still to be filled.

One of the open spots just came open this past week, with men’s golf coach Kirk Kayden announcing that he would be leaving after almost 10 years at the helm to take the same position at Mercer University in Macon, GA.

Austin Peay State University graduated 1,132 Students Friday, May 9th

 

Clarksville, TNAPSU LogoAustin Peay State University on Friday celebrated the graduation of 1,132 students from its six component schools. Since 2008 the University has held two separate graduation ceremonies in order to accommodate its growing student body.

Family and friends of the graduates gathered on hand to witness the ceremonies and to celebrate what is likely to be one of the proudest moments in the life of their APSU student.

Tennessee Board of Regents names Tristan Denley Interim APSU President

 

Tennessee Board of RegentsNashville, TN – Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan has named Tristan Denley, TBR vice chancellor of Academic Affairs and former provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Austin Peay State University, to serve as interim president of APSU effective May 10th.

Denley, who will maintain dual responsibilities as TBR’s vice chancellor during the interim period, will provide leadership to the campus until a new president is named and is available to assume the executive role.
