PRESS RELEASE: Clarksville Coalition of Civil Rights Leaders Unite for Common Cause

Several civil rights leaders have decided to reconstitute the Clarksville Coalition of Civil Rights Leaders (CCCRL). These citizens believe that civil rights issues in Clarksville continue to go unresolved.

The coalition, originally founded in 2005, has been inactive due to the conflicting schedules of the leadership. However, after assessing the current status of civil rights compliance and protections in Clarksville and Montgomery County, some civil rights leaders believe it necessary to unite.

Renowned Speaker & Instructor on Islam to Speak at Austin Peay State University.

Dr. Awadh Binhazim will speak at Austin Peay State University, Tuesday February 27, 2007 from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the McCord Building - Room - 240.

Dr. Awadh Binhazim is a leader in Nashville’s Muslim community and instructor on the subject for 12 years. Binhazim is president of Olive Tree Education; a nonprofit group in Nashville dedicated to Islamic education and outreach, and was raised in Kenya. Clarksville Citizens Take Their Fight to The Mayor & The Clarksville Board of Zoning Appeals

At a recent community meeting the citizens of Clarksville, TN voted and confirmed that they will take their plea before the Clarksville Board of Zoning Appeals on January 3, 2007, 100 - Spring Street Clarksville TN @ 8: 30 A.M., to stop the Salvation Army from placing a homeless shelter and possible alcohol and drug rehabilitation center next to Byrns - Darden Elementary School.

The Montgomery County Parents & Teachers Organization (PTO) along with local School Board members and several County Commissioners will present evidence, petitions and signed affidavits. We all agreed that this possible shelter would not only pose a safety risk to the students of Byrns - Darden Elementary School, but would cause irreparable damage to the community as a whole. «Read the rest of this article»
